  • Reconverted Pumping Plant

I seem to be into converted industrial spaces these days.

So here's another piece done for fun and practice.

It's loosely based on a renovated water pump house in Berlin by Wenk and Wiese Architects (see original photos and plans here).

    Done in Max2010+Vray SP4.

Comments and advice much welcome, as always...

Love it. The exposure is a little low for me in the last render and the square format with the fisheye is a bit unique - love the formality of the third render and the outside environment. Second and third are my faves - great stuff.

like the mood, dark are too dark, but I think it's a photograph intention no?

nice images. can you say the amount of time you spend creating the model. did you work on the model non stop or part time ?

          Thanks guys,
The darks look ok here, but perhaps my screen is too light, as somebody else mentioned this too on another forum. I really need to get it properly calibrated.

Claude: The model looks more complex than it really is. I spent about a week on it, working a couple of hours every night. The main problem was the sketchy references. The materials and the lighting took longer to get right than the model, even though RT helped enormously.

I remember seeing this on archdaily and thinking: hmmm that would be cool to do in 3d...

Are you going to do the top floor too?

If you are looking for some feedback, I think the more orthographic views work best in this space. for example:

Not so keen on the mouse eye view shots, but I do like the last one. Blacks look fine on my 30" apple cinema display.

I think I prefer the photographer's cool blues rather than warm yellows for such an industrial space, but thats maybe a phase I am going through after seeing your last industrial space!

Go on, do the top floor as well:

we know you have suitable furniture for it already!

                  Thanks for the feedback Peter.

I used your compositing methode for the fog, by the way, so thanks for that. There's never enough of it, though, is there?

I haven't modelled the top floor yet, but I've been giving it some thought. Getting the light to fill the room from such a small opening will be tough, even with LWF, but I might give it a go. It's a nice space.
I did model the back rooms, though, but they're not furnished yet.

As for the blue, perhaps you're right, As it happens, I did too blueish renders using your dusk .exr. Here they are. Didn't have time to do any postwork or add fog on those, so they might be a bit unbalanced and dark. One of them has internal lighting on, which helps balance it a bit. These took light years to render at 3000 pixels for some reason.

                          Congratulations
very nice materials lighting and modeling.
But now the question borns spontaneusly...
Where to find the dusk.exr to try some render?
SOrry the question but the temptation was too strong.
I asked so generally as ironic way because the artist who did it is present in the thread, (Peter Guthrie)
If Peter could gently share it would be very useful for me even by PM a link would be great

                          Again congratulations
