  • House, day and night

4 years old scene i decided to touch up a bit for the upcoming website. I wanted to add more detail and in the process i decided to add some light fixtures. Trying to figure out where to put them, led to the night shot.

Seems that my bricks are out of scale and there are some artifacts on the mesh visible in the dayshot so ill probably have to rerender them both. Also the hedge is PS in the day version and 3d in the night, i'm not sure which height i should keep.

Also, i think i keep messing up my calibration, because i have no idea how color profiles actually work. I'm not sure if colors in these will be allright.

Cool.. the shrubs are growing at night!!!!kidding

I like the night image way better, looks like there is a nice atmosphere. The day image is nice, but after the night one, less punch.

Agree. I did like the geometry of the building in the original day shot, but now i find the whole image a tad boring after doing the night shot. I'm not sure what to do with the lighting/atmoshpere though because everything is so frontal.

        @Janosik

Any idea on how to make it look better?

Overall it looks good to me.

A few tiny things that might help:
The address plate could use some kind of illumination in the night shot.
To make the day shot pop a little more, the sky backplate could stand to be a little more vibrant to match the mood of everything else.

i'd have a look at a photo of a building that is in full sun and red brick just to check the saturation levels etc because to me they look a bit oversaturated maybe...

I like the form of the house but 100% brick isnt quite working IMHO.

At lot of the detail is great but just look at the overall impression if you can (somtimes you can be standing too close if u know what i mean)

                      Paulison,

the colors are pretty off, i'm trying to fix that with a better brick texture/material, but i am VERY open to composition suggestions. The two perspectives from older images are made from a distance, and i doubt it would be possible to shoot from such a position in real life, but i liked the simple look of the render. I'm looking at magazines and book but can't find any inspiration...

Maybe try using a dirtmap (AO pass), as well as some displacement in the daylight shot - brick material looks to clean and cg..

I find it very hard to control displacement especially on edges. I did remap the house and remodel it a tad so the bricks are layed out properly and wrap around corners, but stil i get artifacts and stuff. Should this be done via 3d or 2d isplacement?

                            Maybe something in this direction?

better and why don t use some displace map for bricks ? in my case helped a lot .....
ehm missed post above hehe but i my case i am using 2d map and when i do 2 cm displace i shift 1 cm back and this can save me from open corners ( ofcourse not definetly but usefull for 3000 pix res )
