  • Audax Sport Fishing Yacht

    Hey guys!

Here're a series of renderings that we created for Schöpfer Yachts' new luxury sport fishing yacht called Audax. A bunch of you helped me when we were struggling with the displacement water in this thread, and thanks again for that. I didn't manage to get the water quite right in all the shots, but I think it's definitely a step forward from what we had previously produced. I'm a big fan of this particular yacht's design, and that may be why we gave it some extra TLC with so many angles and light setups. Definitely had fun with this one!

And because I know someone's going to wonder, we don't know what this puppy will cost you, but I've heard some estimates of somewhere in the realm of $15 million. Gonna have to sell a lot more renderings a year (and stop sleeping) to ever afford one!

    Regards,
    Shaun

That looks so much like a dolphin, looks great. Shots look great. Congrats on the work.

Nice renders Shaun, although I'm not too keen on the design - he's definitely being adventurous!.. and the teak decking going transverse across the yacht is just outrageous!!! That'll have all the traditionalists jumping up and down.

One thing I thought stands out is the amount of reflection of the yacht in the water. Generally, the rougher the sea state, the less reflection you can see.

Thanks guys. The design is definitely aggressive -- the direction of the teak decking never came up in our original views, but of course you're right that that's tres unconventional. Might have to revisit that!

The reflections in the ocean are the biggest failing of the way we displaced the ocean surface. From a distance, it behaves well enough, but when you get right up to the boat it reflects like a mirror as you said. Definitely something that we'll continue to work on in the future -- this is our third yacht project and they're quite a different challenge than terrestrial structures!

Overall these are great looking renders!

I must agree with the reflection comment made before... It's not real looking, and to obviously seems like an overlay. In image no 2 the left side of the wake lines up with the Yacht must and seems like a spray going up rather then part of the surface wake. the fade out blending of the wake it too abrupt and also seems (to me only maybe) as an overlay. (the same apply to the last image of this set too)

As a skipper myself I would love to take this Yacht for a spin!!!

              Cheers

You're right on Ruben, the bow wake is all PS -- no 3D magic, I'm afraid. Definitely got it looking a lot better in some of the images, overall the third is my favorite for integration. We used dozens of stock photos of boats and ships underway and comped different pieces together. I haven't seen any 3D techniques that we could reasonably integrate that come out better -- obviously we'll have to figure something out for animations. In my previous water thread, Dreamscape was overwhelmingly recommended, so I'll definitely be checking that out.

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys -- I definitely respect and agree with all of your feedback. The water will be a continuous struggle. We're working on a floating city concept at the moment, so now we'll be trying to render an ocean area of 6-10 square miles from the air. That's going to require a whole new approach, I think.

                      Nice work!

One thing I did notice though was the reflections seemed a bit weak in your scene [Both the water & the boat seemed a bit flat.]

Try some more close-up shots as well, as it seems a waste to do a good modeling job & not get near it much.

                      Cheers
