  • Caterpillar - Generator

Project I'm nearly finished for CAT. Few renders. Was supplied CAD data, but it was an utter mess. I tried my best to correct it where possible. Haven't decided entirely on the environment, so the gradient is just temporary.

    Regards,

    Judderman.

nicely done. I think a concrete pad over a gravel hardscape with an out of focus background would be a nice compliment. But I like this studio look as well if thats whats called for.

Very nice! my father in-law retired from CAT 20 years ago; he would love it!

Cool renders! I like the detail. Model looks good, the pipe couplers look a bit flat to me, would rubber/silicone have a bit more of a texture and a highlight? Also, the hot pipe after the turbo looks like it's kinked or not smooth, could just be the reflections..could also be the design, but something about it caught my eye.

Very nice renders, love the CAT yellow colors. What kind of environment/lighting did you use the few pieces of chrome on there look great?

I wish I knew which bits you were talking about, I only know the main parts, I'm not very au fait with engines

I'd like to do a gravel landscape type shot actually, good suggestion. Might throw one of those together for myself.

Scene is very basic in terms of it's lighting, just a few vray lights dotted around various positions to light up the right areas. The materials aren't that reflective so it was hard to get it looking okay, It could be done much better. Vray RT would have been immensely useful I imagine but alas, this is something we don't yet have.

The problem I found was working with huge step files. There were and still are loads of holes. I ended up modelling over lots of the worst parts, but never got done to do all them, hopefully they're not too visible.

The scene is heavy enough, about 750mb, so that was a bit of a pain at times. I know I could have proxied off bits of it, but I didn't in this instance because I might have to change the model and proxying it would have made that impossible bar simple material changes!

Nicely done. Very clean. What is missing is a couple of cute caterpillars crawling around the machine he he..Done with DOF, naturally...
