it would be helpful if you posted some information on your settings and lighting setup.

and what are you using to illuminate the scene

The scene you point out as a your goal is also more realistic because the modeling is more realistic.

agree with flipside, do you have AA on? Image Sampling (Antialiasing Area) - not sure if you might be referring to the jagged edges.

          What are your settings?

the modelling might be more realistic, but the scale isn't.

don't forget, the mapping is very important for realistic scene (diffuse, speculaire, bump,...)

PS The only solution for beautiful images is working, testing more and more. Vray has not a button "do me a real picture plese"

I think that there many reasons why your image does not look photorealistic. For starters turn on antialiasing for one. Or at least get it above the values you have now (if any) Try -1 and +2. Next. Your textures. Realism has an awful lot to do with textures. The marble on the walls: WAY too repetitive. Go to www.mayang.com/textures and get some nice big marble maps and then go to photoshop or paint shop pro and play around with them to give you some less tyling maps. Same for the floor. All the tyles on the floor have the same texture, why dont you create about 20 different ones and then create one big map that can then be tiled without it being so noticeable. Also, add some subtle bump map to them. Look at the image that you want to achieve, the colours and hues all go together beautifully, but here i have to ask: what is that blue thing?!! If you HAVE to have a bright blue table there may i suggest giving it a nicer texture than plain blue. Although i am hard pressed to think of an interesting blue texture for a table. I would make it out of glass and wood to keep with the rest of the decor in the scene. The marble needs to have some reflections in it. Both the floor and the walls. Not too much, but enough to give it more realism. the same goes for the glass cylinders on the ceiling. Other things.... the leather needs some specular hilights on it as well as a little bit of a bump map. The lighting could be more subtle as well. bring the lights down a bit and have the ceiling lights provide more. So that there are specific spots of brighter light under them, and less ambient light all over the room. Your ceiling is WAY too bright I think you need to seriously reconsider the lighting set up in here. Right now it looks like its all lit by fluorescent strip lighting (YUCK!). there are many other reasons but my boss has just been watchign me type this out and has informed me that i have a deadline coming up. So, a few more things to say: I think your room is too bland and empty, its a very boring shot visually, you need an interesting focal point, like the table in the shop you like. The textures need some serious work, lighting need redoing completely, please get rid of that blue desk, add reflections to glass and marble. But like flipside said, the modelling is also not very good, add more detail, go out into the world with a pad and pen, take a look at real lobbies and note all the small details. Sorry if this sounds very negative, but i promise i am just trying to help. Keep working at it.

                Regards,

                Marc
