  • New still from interiror animation- trying to improve-

Hi folks, in my last post I had discussion with 3dmk and thablanch mostly, about educating our client. How they choose color, camera placement and movement, lighting etc....

So I went that way and tried to educate our client with some examples and explanation, the response was very good!

So I went with a different approach with this one, Modeling done in Autocad By Mo and Mel, interior design made by Annie with client directions and then I came into play for the animation part and post process, It s been a couple of year now that I m learning and pushing my after effects skills, I m still learning everyday...

I want to say thanks to 3dmk and thablanch for pushing me toward that direction. Like I said Im still learning and Im trying to improve so in all modesty here s the pics, c&c are most welcome as I m trying to improve...

This is the same condo in 2 different style, they call it: the Zen and the Classic, I went in a blueish mood for the Zen and warmer tone for the classic.

Thanks again guys!Hope you like it.

Nice renders. Nice feel and interesting views. I like the office one (with yellow chair) a lot.
The depth of field is nice. I think in the first image of second set (table with square pots and kitchen behind it) could be nice to have slightly less DOF so the kitchen is a bit less blurred.

The light in the images is excellent. Are you doing much post-production to get the atmospheric quality?

Your texturing needs work, however. For example, the leather on the Barcelona pieces looks to be entirely procedural, which gives it an artificial look. A dirt map in the specular or reflection channel will work wonders for giving leather a more natural appearance. Consider going to a bitmap for the diffuse channel as well in order to get the slightest hint of inconsistency in the color.

tanks for your comments, johnszot: just enough post to get the atmospheric quality like you said, playing with the color, glow\ diffusion in window + depth of field, about the texturing, like I said its a team workflow, so the scene came in my hand all modelled, dresses and textured, I have touch a couple of thing here and there and redo the lighting completely.

Yep, quite nice images. I think this way the client understand better that you do have an input, or can help him making his thing look "wow". Taht you are no longer just a computer guy, just pressing F9, executing his wishes. Of course, if you tried and the client still does not want that ( your input) you need to know when to stop fighting with him, loosing energy for nothing.

Also, one thing I noticed, when the image is "wow" right away, clients, bosses or coworkers, are way less of a pain in the lower back when it comes to changes. THe can you try this, that, are you sure about this color.. suddenly becomes: nice shoot, really sells the project.

Now back on your images, they sure look nice. Great mood, nice camera angles.

thx thablanch,Keep in mind that those images are frames, some first frame of an animated path..... I still have a lot to learn, we all do, every day. But I am more willing to take the time trying to explain and provide image to back my opinions. This forum is quite helpful for learning and exchanging ideas, concept, artistic and technical knowledge, thanks to the whole community and keep up the good work!

The stills look very good. Really nice atmosphere. Do you have some clips of the animation we could take a look at.

Very nice that, both the stills and the animation. Well done

Is the depth of field rendered too, or comp'd in AE with zdepth? Just wondering how folks render dof as I only know the max way...

Thx, PGD, I render VrayZdepth and comp it with AE, I think this is the best way to go, no impact on render time and full control real time in AE.

This is the full animation with the exterior part, wich I had to revist because they changed the balcony at the last minute( had to re-render actually) And now its possible they change idea again for the brick texture...you know a bit more red, no a bit more orange or brown...

Music was choosen by the client.

As always c&c are most welcome.

                          Have a great week-end!

Looks really nice love the "look and fell" and composite of the animation. Just one question, could it be you've got a problem with frame rate conversions the animation has a little "stagger" in the playback ? I had that same problem using 3ds max and aftereffects something to do with aftereffects importing the footage in 30fps as defauld.

The little "stagger" is maybe cause by a slow internet connection, or something because im rendering at 30 fps with pixel aspect of 1 and compositing at 30 fps with pixel aspect of 1, I dont have any issue with the video, maybe its youtube conversion or internet lag...
