  • Old Man Head

I'm close to finished finally with this dumb sculpt that I've been working on in my free time.

Here's the VRaySSS2 renders of the head:

really good!!! like it a lot.

      my only crits would be:
      - eyes look too young and so does the geometry of the eyelids

Sawyer, I hope you grandfather is nicer than he looks!

Great work, very realistic and yeah, a bit evil looking and scary!!

Great sculpt! Is that MudBox or ZBrush?
Flesh tones are really nice - the colors on the ears, nose, eyes, cheeks are really well done.

              My 2 cents of critique:

The nose seems crooked and pushed to the left. In your front shot, follow the middle of the brow down and you'll see it's shifted to the left.
With this much wrinkling, there should be crows feet around the edge of the eyes as well.
The skull flesh color is weird. It extends all the way down to the eye brow line. Since he's bald, it would not be pale like that.

But, all the above could be that exact look you're going for! Because he's definitely creeping me out. LOL

                GatesB,
                ZBrush.
The nose is crooked like a withered old man's nose might be, broken at some point in life or else. You're absolutely right on the crow's feet, I will have to add those in. I am going to hair at some point so the skull color won't matter too much. Ideas on how to incorporate hair? I've had bad experience with the VRayFurStyler so I might have to comp it using MAX hair, which I really don't want to do. Ideas?

Thanks for the comments and critiques guys!

Jiri/John, thanks for the kind words. I used 3d.sk for all photo reference. I'll be doing another project soon and I'll do screen capture of the entire process for anyone interested in a couple weeks.

cool stuff Colin. For hair the best option is hairfarm but it's expensive plugin. So you can try standard max hairand fur but man it's pain to use but do it right and results are very good.

Thanks Lukx, I'll give hairfarm a try soon.

Just checked the price. Ouch. Maybe it'll be a bit longer than soon. I do love hair though!
