    hi all,

I just thought I'd share a recently completed image with you all.

This image is a frame from a live footage plate. As usual I had trouble with glass. But, overall, I'm reasonably happy with the results, so please
    don't bag me too much...

Comments on ways to improve it for future reference are welcome.

        Thanks Dman

This has been an ongoing project (design changes), but the recent set of images produced took about 3 days. I can't quite remember how long each render took but it was no more than 30 mins.

For the first time ever, my camera match worked well enough that I didn't have to you PS to skew and distort the image to fit. Very satisfying.

              Sunny...Very nice work dude!

question...how did u do your Camera Match...did u use other applications to do it? (like Matchmover, boujou, scengenie) or did u just the max camera match utility...

Im asking this b'cause im having trouble doing it.

Thanks again for the compliments guys. Ironically the client thought the building looked "too" real and that it was hard to identify which building was being proposed. So that they asked the post production guys to put a damn glow around the building and fade the photo into a pale blue. Can you believe that? What a waste of effort!!

                Nildoe:

For this exercise I only camera matched a couple of frames from the video footage. There wasn't any tracking recquired (thank god, it was the shakiest camera footage I've ever seen!!!!). I simply used Max's default camera matching tools to start with (which rarely works accurately) then tweaked the camera.

I've tried using Matchmover Demo before. It seemed easy enough. I don't think we'd even be able to afford Boujou. Never heard of scengenie.

Good luck though. I'd love see a snipet of your final comp though.

Actually they're right, it is hard to see what's new in the image... But there are more elegant ways to show the difference! I assume there will always be a before/after comparison with this kind of project no? Then it is obvious what's new and what not.

That image is outstanding! Wonderful Wonderful job! Sorry that they had to go and ruin it with a stupid glow! I hate when you put so much effort into something and it looks fantastic and then someone has to crap on it!

                    Nice job again!

I get the same sort of thing, does not look artsy enough.
I think someone in the post said something to the effect of needs to be hyper-real.

Well I still think it is awesome, so dont let it get you down.

Thanks guys. I really needed the positive comments.
It's been a nightmare over the last 2 days with this job.

I was at the post-production house yesterday trying to salvage the
job due to the client changes. The client asked we to whip up an animation of the building in 1 day. My frames were taking 25 mins each to render and I had 800 frames. Needless to say, I couldn't finish it in time even though I had 13 computers networked. Add to the fact that my damn files kept crashing every time I tried to save the add incremental map on.

Has anyone else had problems with saving add incrementals? After the first frames (set to save every 20th frame) I get and error message and Max/VRay goes bye-bye. I'm running W2P SP3 on a P4 2Ghz with 2GBRam.

Looks like the client's going to ask me to redo the animation at no extra cost. I expect it will take me at least 5 days to redo it. Someone please put me out of my misery!!!!!!

I love VRay, but damn did I lose face yesterday when I had to tell the client that my sofware kept crashing and therfore I couldn't deliver.

That makes me mad just reading that. I dont mean to step on anyones toes, but it sounds to me like the animation wasn't in the original contract, so how could he be pissed at not having an animation done in a day? Or was it that you promised something that couldn't be delivered? Personally I "might" have promised a day if I was rendering with scanline. And as much as i love vray, GI in production work is still something to NOT be taken lightly. I hope everything works out.

I had a problem with the incremental saving and the problem was the slaves to not have a proper login and permissions where the IRMap was being saved.

Dont know if that helps but there you go.

Sorry everyone. I'm so, so, so, so, so......STUPID!!!!!!

The problems with my animation crashing have all been attributed to
a very simple oversight. I've been setting VRay to "Add to current map"
instead of "Incremental add to current map".

Unbelievable. Such a simple mistake has caused me so much grief.

                              Thanks for everyone's support anyway.
