  • 3d facade test

I'm experimenting with some generative patterns, this is a simple test of the initial idea.

Unfortunately, someone pointed out that this has all already been done, there's even a patent pending on something similar.

I like it!! you should test from eyelevel point of view....those effects are very difficult to get in real life if you don't know where would be the main view of that facade

      Yes looking good.
We recently did a similar project, but the facade was animated by the wind.
Have a look at the artist Ned Kahn:

Wow, the animated facade looks great. Do you know if these flaps are independent so the wind actually creates the wave/dune pattern, or are they connected in some way so that they trigger themselves to create a certain pattern?

Who do you work for? I recently came across an article about a "portrait building" designed by ARM architects. I was quite surprised since i think this concept has already been built in Stockholm and it was designed by BIG. Earlier this year I created the mechanism myself, after attending a lecture by Bjarke Ingels, just to see how it was done.

I'm asking, because i figure there aren't that many architectural firms that deal with generative desgin.

          Hi,

We produced these images for UAP, the second one is the hero shot:
          http://uapmarker.com.au/2010/07/14/b...ned%c2%a0kahn/

200,000 individual aluminium perforated squares, the squares have two fixings at the top, and swing freely at the bottom.

The two little bolts at the top of the square go back to a horizontal rail. Have a look at the photograph below.
This will be used to cover a carpark at our local airport, fantastic idea.

They are only powered by the wind, so the ripples is the wind as it passes over/through the aluminium squares.
