    vray form-ers -

    posting as a WIP:

    http://www.vimeo.com/15958100

a bit from an upcoming short-film release in march 2011. there is still quite a bit missing in the context, but comments and crits welcome.

obviously influenced/inspired/guided by Alex Roman's masterpiece, but also big big ups to Bertrand Benoit and Peter Guthrie whose online tutorials and immaculate resources are making everyone's jobs/lives easier and more productive. thanks fellas.

More grime and dirt is needed to bring out the "urbaness"

Agreed with the above comment. Personally I think the cameramotion, especially in the beginning, is a bit too fast.

        Overall very nice!

Great stuff. Love the style. Technically the materials are superb.
I would perhaps add some "noise", as in randomness, in the camera movement for that subtle extra touch of realism.
Glad you found the tuts interesting

thanks for the kind words everyone.

more grime? wow. as you can imagine, the grime is painstaking. anyone have any pointers on a procedural method for doing so? i.e. a good vray dirt map trick etc.?

NP - yr not the first to get disoriented by the camera angles - thinking about revising those....as for the graffiti - only small portions are by our studio; the majority is taken from photos of graffiti in our archive from Brooklyn (NYC) and Detroit:

                        that's a sample.....

This is fantastic. Love the textures. A couple questions... Is the vignetting VRay's or did you do it post? I usually turn it off for stills. I've never seen it used in an animation like this, but I think it's a great look.

Also curious how you did the sun flares. Very cool.

thanks JSS - the vignetting is definitely post; every time we do things like that "in-camera", we get into trouble - the sun flares are After Effects, check out Alex Roman's breakdowns of his work on 3rd/7th film - very very informative, that stuff.....think you can find it here: http://vimeo.com/5407991
