Made in 3dsmax, Zbrush, Vray and Multiscatter.

    A Word on Multiscatter...
At Taylor James we created an ident animation to welcome in the cold snap of the new winter season! This project required a huge amount of frost crystals, we knew we could achieve the density required using particle systems but knew from previous experiences that with high particle counts we'd have to use complicated work-arounds to solve the problem of rendering. From our first test with MultiScatter we could see that it was going to achieve the desired result and allow us to render at unlimited densities. We really pushed the capabilities of 3dsmax and Vray with this plugin, each blade of frost had 30,000 polys and in some scenes we had a maximum count of 7million blades of frost, that's a staggering 210 billion polygons render at HD resolution with a fairly complex refractive and reflective material with GI in approximately 1 hour per frame. We look forward to using Multiscatter on future Projects

Have A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Taylor James.

Very nice. Did you use masking to animate the ice crystals across the ground ? An animated gradient ?

I dislike red-cyan friging. Red-blue - the only choice for me
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

We had a density map that was a static and an animated scale mask sequence which was blured in comp to give a gradual growth. This mask was generated by a fluid sim so the sim flowed around objects and allowed the mask to appear seemless between objects.
