  • Lounge Bar

Working on a image of a new Lounge Bar. Any suggestions to improve the image? Rendered in VRay 2.0, touch ups in After Effects.

Added a drink on the bar... The ash tray has real geometry elements inside it to make the ash inside more realisic. I plan to adjust the liquid inside the drinking glass a little more. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    *Updated*
Made adjustments to the drink per da_elf's suggestion. Also increased the resolution to 720p res. and improved the DOF. Will render different angles later. See attached Thumbnail below.

Made massive changes based off of feedback from this forum and the CGSociety.

    Looks good.
Are you just developing one view? Would be interesting to see some other VPs.
The colours look quite muted, but it works well for the image. Sometimes CG images can be very saturated.

Yes, I can add more camera angles, was focusing on getting the overall look done, then spend the time rendering the other angles. I'll add more later this week. But thanks for the feedback! It looks a little saturated because I have an atmosphere pass that gives a haze, slight smoke/dust feel in the environment. This is more evident in the downlights. But thanks again!

I meant that your image doesn't look over-saturated, but often CG images do. Looks great.

            Good call Da_elf

Looks like a really cool place.

My rum and coke feels like a Bloody Mary. When I render with just the glass and ice it looks perfect, soon as I add the liquid (geometry) it doesn't feel right, what do you think?

your liquid geometry needs to be slightly inside the glass geometry and the color isnt too right. ive studied rum alot hehehehe

elf, Your rum looks awesome. Don't tell me your settings I want to try to figure out what you did on my own. Hey, can you do a rendering of that glass with ice in it also? Im curious if I can get similar results.

dont know if i still have the scene. its simple to do rum when you live in the country with the oldest rum distillery in the world hehehe

Yes I did it in post. Exported the image as EXR. Imported into After Effects CS4. Used Frischluft DOF with Auto checked on. What do you think is throwing it off for you? Radius too strong?

                          Teriander,
Great work. Technically I don't have anything to complain (although it's a bit hard to see on this size image).

On 1st image what I didn't like is that there is no center of attention. Stage, bar, pictures on the wall are all the same lighting level and I didn't know where to look. You should decide what is the most important part and concentrate and diferentiate lighting for it. Do 5-10 images from diferent angles: there is so much happening in the scene it'd be a shame not to capture it all

Hi Zoran! Thanks for your suggestion! I do plan to have multiple angles, the 1st image you were referencing was just an overall shot for other artist to easily critique. When everything is finished, that shot will go away and my images will all be different angles as you described. Thanks again!
