  • Camera animation test and question about colormapping vs rendertime

    Hi, all

    This scene is my old scene and now I re-rendered with new PC
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Kvs...&feature=feedu
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmHUf...&feature=feedu

    Now I have a qustion
    What makes the difference of rendertime between below images.

    Exterior example

    1. 3dsMax Gamma/LUT setting 2.2 / default framebuffer used / Vray Colormapping Gamma 1.0 / Rendertime 26min

    2. 3dsMax Gamma/LUT setting 2.2 / Vray Framebuffer used / Vray colormapping gamma 1.0 / Rendertime 25min (output gamma override 2.2)

    3. 3dsMax Gamma/LUT setting 2.2 / Vray Framebuffer used / Vray colormapping gamma 2.2 / Rendertime 34min

    Another example

    1. Vray colormapping gamma 1.0 / Rendertime 3m 29s (output override 2.2)

    2. Vray colormapping gamma 2.2 / Rendertime 3m 39s

    Vray benchmark scene

    fullsize : http://blog.naver.com/storyphoto/vie...PEG%2F1to8.jpg
    1 / 2 / 3 / 4
    5 / 6 / 7 / 8

    below gamma settings are just for comparison and similar output result;
    1. Gamma/LUT Off & Max framebuffer ( rendertime : 1m 2s)
    2. Gamma/LUT Off & VFB ( rendertime : 1m 2s)
    3. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & Max framebuffer ( rendertime : 1m 3s)
    4. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & VFB & ColorMapping gamma 0.2066 & Save gamma override 4.84 ( rendertime : 55s)
    5. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & VFB & ColorMapping gamma 0.4545 & Save gamma override 2.2 ( rendertime : 1m 10s)
    6. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & VFB & ColorMapping gamma 1.0 & Save gamma override 1.0 ( rendertime : 1m 2s)
    7. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & VFB & ColorMapping gamma 2.2 & Save gamma override 0.4545 ( rendertime : 46s)

    8. Gamma/LUT 2.2 & VFB & ColorMapping gamma 4.84 & Save gamma override 0.2066 ( rendertime : 30s)

    When using Vray colormapping gamma setting;
    - First exterior render : gamma 1.0 with VFB is faster
    - Second Interior render : Similar
    - Third benchmark render : gamma 2.2 with VFB is faster

    What makes these difference?

    I don't understand it. Your images are almost exact in illumination whether you have color mapping gama set to 2.2 or 1. My images always get washed out, and I either have to use the Vray FB with a curve or adjust it in PS. What gives. My MAX LUT is set 2.2, and I use exponential colormapping. Gama set to 1.

      Vincent, in my case, I did override output gamma to match the result for comparison.
