550d are going cheap at the minute, ever since the 60d came out. I got mine at http://www.citiwideonline.com/ based in singapore.
Got it in a week. SD card was damaged they sent me a new one straight away. Was really happy overall it saved me a fortune on the prices in Oz.

If you some extra dough then the 60d might be a better choice. They are more or less the same camera when it comes to video except 60 d has a swivel screen at the back which could be handy for shooting low to the ground and I think it has one processor instead of 2 so in theory it doesnt get as hot as the 550d. So if you got the extra cash the 60d is probably the better choice although you would be probably better off to spend the change on a better len.

If you do cough up and get either of the cameras get a class 6 or higher sd card (or xd card if your loaded) as the class 4 32 card I got is a bottleneck and sometimes the video shuts off as it cant write fast enough.

I'm on the west coast, about 15 mins outside perth cbd. Tis a good city, easy to get round, sunny every day, beach is 15 minutes the other direction.

They've just announced the 600d with the swivel screen too at the same price as the 550d - I was going to get which ever is cheaper since I want to get a tokina 11-16mm too - nearly the same price as the body but a gorgeous wide! Rain just started up here again after a few months of cold and snow

Yep a 15mm looks useful alright - The best rated wide is that tokina though, they're difficult to get but they're extremely sharp and f2.8 at both ends of the lens. Film people are having them converted to work on cinema film cameras they're so good. Definitely give me a shout if you're ever swinging through Dublin - I've a few good friends from here working in london and LA too so if you ever fancy dipping into the nasty world of VFX let me know

Cheers John (J=John?)the 15,000km commute Perth to London would be a killer but if I ever decide to enter those murky VFX waters and move back on the topside of the globe I will give you a shout.

Planning to get back to Ireland in the next year if I'm up Dublin way pints are on me.
