well the way i do it (right or wrong) is to take a shot of the sky with my digital camera, take that image into HDRI Shop, convert the image to a Floating point Tiff and then just take that into max as the envitoment and vray skylight..... and yes the vray light as a spere on very low just to get nicer shadows and better illumination...... very basic ...but works for me every time.
you probably wont belive me but i got it this morning at 9........ finnished by 6pm............

natty... one thing I do when I have a lot of tiling, as you do on the granite, is to make a larger map. With somehting like that granite, it is easy, simple make a larger canvas size in potatoeshop and use the clone brush to copy the noise around... that way you can use a larger map size in MAX and the tiling will not be as obvious as it is now.
thanks for all your comments guys you have all been a great help.
the client was over the moon with the results.
and now wants an animation which i will also post in the next couple of days.
hi..if im right, the railing height is a bit off especially relative to the steps..in the original picture you can see the first vertical post almost touching the top of the stairs and yours is just reaching the 4th step..that would make your railing height only 400mm in height(especially if 1 step equals 180 - 200)...i might be wrong cause its based on view.
