  • Bauhaus Dessau

    Hey all,

Here is something I completed over the winter break. This is my rendition of Walter Gropius' Bauhaus in Dessau. These images owe a great debt of inspiration to photographer Thomas Lewandovski, who made a great set of Bauhaus images recently.

As always, modeling in 3ds Max and rendering in Vray.

The Wassily armchair can be purchased here.

    Hope you like those.

The pattern of bump in the grass in the first two distracts me a tiny bit - it looks a bit like small desert shrubs more than grass. All the rest is spot on though - the close up shots are photographs, simple as that. You've even got the feel of the ageing on photos from that period coming through in the grade!

That is awesome! Just the sky reflection in the 1st image looks a bit weird. In the shot it's mostly overcast, but in the reflection there is a lot of blue. All the other are excellent!
              Kind Regards,

a work of beauty, especially the closeups and the snowy one. I find them outstanding.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Yep, the grass is not the best, at least not seen from a distance. This one uses MultiScatter. But since I had a pretty clean, straight cut between grass and walkways, I couldn't use relatively large patches of grass and had to use these little patches that ended up giving the lawn a strange look.
I'll post more info about the winter image soon. There's a lot of displacement there, including displacement of already displaced meshes, as well as SnowFlow meshes and good old polymodelled objects. There's also quite a strict LOD approach, to keep things as simple as possible.

                      Great work!

A lot of your images seem to have a fair amount of melancholy in them.

Very nice! I particularly like your glass material -has the perfect balance between reflection / refraction that we are always striving for.

I'd love to know what you are using for color correction. Good old Photoshop? or are you using something else?
