  • Help needed for gear scrpt or expression

    Hello guys,

I need your help for "scripting".

Gear1 is rotating on z axis (both sides), Gear2 is linked to G1, but only in positive (or negative, I don't remember).

I want to assign a controller on gear2.Z Rotation (cript or expression), something like that :

    if G1.Z Rotation=positive then G2.Z Rotation=G1.Z Rotation else 0

    or

    if G1.Z Rotation=negative then G2.Z Rotation=G1.Z Rotation else 0

I need to setup a 80 moving parts watch, so I need to use "Assign Controller" function.

hope you can help, and hope to be clear...

    Best regards.

PS: I will post the same Message on CG Talk... best regards...

Okay so to clarify this, gear 1 is rotating both clockwise and anti-clockwise and you want gear 2 to rotate only if gear 1 rotates clockwise? Should gear 2 rotate the same amount as the rotation amount of gear one? Would it make sense to just link the rotation of gear 2 to a dummy object that only does positive rotations with a hold for the negative section of gear 1's rotation and then use the relative repeat out of range curve on it? Or does gear 1 do rotations of different amounts each time?

      Yes

      Yes, same amount

      Different amount each time...

Im pretty sure there used to be a gear script around...maybe on scriptspot. You could setup as many gears as you wanted I think. Not sure about its use for commercial applications though, you may need permission.

Is every gear going to use the same movement as gear one? As in will the other 80 gears you have to set up also use the same movement where it only moves if gear 1 moves positively?
