okay. so far, so good. can someone remeber the sss-test from vlado with DS water ? does someone have this file ? as i can remember vlado wanted to sent it to someone....thanks
(Put one of those emoticons you have; soemthing hats off, applauding or alike)
If you still were playing football, Joan Laporta would be trying to contract you just now, he promised 2 media cracks for the F.C. BCN , and for the moment he only has 1; Ronaldinho GaĂºcho ( we still can't believe how it is he did not finish playing with the Man. Utd. )
As for the tut, well, starting from explaining what is this DreamScape thing, how you link IES Sun and Background, etc.
Did you really used an IES Sky and Sun? or usbstituded the IES Sun by a standard light?
I really though you were having some well deserved hollidays.

yes, i´ve found that before, but somethings wrong in my scene. i thinks it´s about the units and sss. just wnated to know which units vlado has used.

"The Daylight system combines sunlight and skylight to create an assembly that follows the geographically correct angle and movement of the sun over the earth at a given location. You can choose location, date, time, and compass orientation. You can also animate the date and time. This system is suitable for shadow studies of proposed and existing structures. Latitude, Longitude, North Direction, and Orbital Scale can be animated as well.
It gives you the option to create a standard direct light, an IES Sun, an IES Sky, or a Texture Sky. These objects are also available using the Create menu > Lights > Daylight or Lights > Standard."
The scene is lighted only by the IES Sun from the Daylight system with vrayshadows, and I ve try the animated environment with DreamScape for Skylight
"DreamScape is sophisticated set of 3DS MAX plug-ins for creating and rendering realistic landscapes, seascapes, skies, clouds, outdoor lighting and more."
Using Vray as a renderer I had to find out what is the value of color mapping that works well with this IES Sun, and I found that with a value of 0.025 I get very good results.
Now get back to skylight,
If we use the default skylight values with VraySkylight and/or a bitmap/HRDI map in the environment slot we would get a very dark skylight to work with.
If 1 (default value for color mapping)/Color mapping value = normal ouput color
means that if you use a color mapping values at 0.025, and need to keep the image at its original color in the environment slot, you will have to increase their output value to 40.
1/0.025 = 40
So to work with DreamScape, I had to increase their exposure according the example.
DS is an environment effect, so we need to add it and ajust the settings to get the environment to work, but to see the effect we also need to use the DS Sun however I dont want to use it to light the scene, only the sky, and there is an option to exclude all the objects in the scene...thats what I ve done.
Now to link the two Suns I had to give them the same origen and use the align tool to have the same coordinates source as well, then with the link option link the DS Sun to the Daylight System Sun.
Hope this helps so far, I will try to add some sreen shots later
i don't have Dreamscape, and there's isn't enough room in the budget to be getting it any time soon.
is there any way to create a tutorial that does use the Vray skylight? i am not too concerned with how the background works - i just want to get the lighting solution to be more accurate than what i have been able to do so far.
i just mean in how the background looks. i see that Dreamscape creates the skylight, but you also used it to create the animated background.
i am looking to do some lighting analysis for the interior of a house design that i am working on. there's a lot of deep light wells and i want to see how the direct and indirect light works its way into the space. so, in this case, how the background looks is less important than getting the accurate intensity of sunlight and skylight coming in.
