how is it lit? it looks a bit flat. the chrome parts could need some fillets to look more real.You can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training. -

Thanks for the feedback. The original scene was lit with a point light and now it has a rectangular light. I changed the surface the microscope was sitting on, changed the reflection map and some geometry. It still needs some work - the chrome, the base were it touches the tile is dark, the reflection in the main tube near the lens turret looks a bit odd(due to the new map) and the eye piece is flat.

I think things are improving. thanks to vcube for the link on lighting and to flipside for his comment on things being stuck in a corner. The only negative (I can see) to this image is the white background with the chrome blending in, so that will be tweaked in the next render.
