  • First run at GI - pointers please

    Hi All...
Just took a run at GI.
These 2 images were done using the same HDR file for the Background and the GI.
The Background in both was default with the multiplier set to 15.
The first was with a GI multiplier of 1 and the second with a multiplier of 5.
    Is this common practise?
Is it normal to use the same HDR for both background and GI.
Maybe the GI is not needed with a HDR background?
    Fill me in please.
The blue tint is from the sky in the HDR file I imagine.

    Ted,

Under Render Options>Global Switches be sure Default light is disabled and try again.

You HDR will light your model. You can control the amount of light from the HDR with the texture multiplier.

You can use the same HDR for both GI and Background.

    Best regards,

    Corey

      Big difference

Thanks Corey that made a huge difference.

I seem to be having a problem getting material maps to work.
      What am I missing there.
I select the material and insert the map but never can get it to show up.

Same render with default lights off

Shutting off the default lights made a huge difference.
I changed the GI hdr file to get rid of some of the blue tint and it made a softer image.
I am liking where this is headed...
Any pointers would of course be appreciated.

          Ted,

Try looking into making a studio setup. Start here for example.
          http://www.aversis.be/extra_tutorial...o_lighting.htm

          I found this nice reference - http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/detail.aspx?ID=48

As Flipside pointed out in this thread http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=155 be sure you understand GI and material settings first.

          Best Regards,

          Corey
