  • A couple of renderings

Here a couple of things. Titanic's Grand Staircase still has more work to be done but I wanted to render it with GI. Once we have better texture support I will add textures to it. This is just an early light test, there's not even any lights upstairs yet.

Looking good. Can you share some of your settings on the staircase scene? Specifically, GI settings, how many other lights- what type and their settings. And render time/computer specs.
I'm getting there with GI on interior scenes, but I'm having a hard time combining lights with GI.

    Thanks

Here is a screen shot that shows some of the settings and some views from Rhino to show light (all rectangular) placement. The lights on the lower level (18 of them) use default settings except for the following - set to invisible - double sided - intensity 2 and subdivisions are at 30. The large light in the dome has default settings except for - set to invisible - intensity 2 and subdivisions are at 30.

Sorry for not having the time stamped on the image, this took about 8Hrs but here is why. My computer has gig of ram and just opening the file uses that up and goes into the paging file. So when V-Ray start up it only has virtual memory to work with. My processor is 2.8 GHz with no HT, all this adds up to slow renderings.

      Hope this info is useful,
      Glen

Very useful, thanks! The main difference I see is that you have unchecked "shadows" in the global settings. I will try that, too.
I don't mind waiting for a good rendering, but I've had a hard time getting a quick preview that gives me a good idea of what it is I will be waiting for.
I haven't been doing lots of interiors in any package, so this is a learning experience.
        Thanks again.

Good, I'm glad it proved useful. You might want to try the RenderWindow command, this will let you render a small portions of your scene.
