    Hi All,

I finally got around to fixing the reflection issues, thanks to all that helped. A few of you were interested in seeing the final product so I thought I would throw it out there. Be gentle.

    Scott.

      hello scott,

i don't want to discourage you or anybody but as an architect
i just get sick looking at this kind of "design".
i live in a really shitty place but i would not want to change to
      "your" place.
guess its not your fault but i've seen to many of such images.

get creative! tell a story, transport an idea. don't just focus on
      cheap mail order furniture catalogs.

and (i general): there are too many teapots and wine bottles
out there anyway with more cautics/ref(ra/le)ctions than in real life.

please don't take it personal, since this applies to many (most?) other images. the rendering is allright, maybe i'm just in a bad mood.
      (btw: sorry for my english)

.nlo. (... hoping to see more stuff from you in the future)

I think the renderings look good. They convey a feeling and mood of the space... Congrats!

Often when doing a rendering, you have to respond to the client's wishes, and put your personal issues about the design or choice of furniture/accessories aside, and make the best of it. Just my 2c worth...

          Deano,

Regardless of what NLO said.... I think the images look great. The depth reads real well. Nice modeling. The first two images are a bit dark on the ceiling, but the lighting generally looks great.

          NICE JOB and congrats!

            Hello nlo:

Perhaps you could show us your magnificent, creative renderings so we can make a critic of your work as your comments deserve!

I believe most people around here are not architects, but architectural ILLUSTRATORS. As such, we strive to reproduce in 3d the design we were given by developers or architects. Most of the time we don't choose what we recreate!

..and about the images, I think Scott made a great job. Congratulations!

Where is there any fault involved? Maybe your words are lost in translation but this is such an odd thing to say.

Good work Scott, wish I had your skills

Thanks everyone for the comments. Not to worry nlo, I do not take any of your comments personally. I do a lot of virtual model homes and deano hit it right on the head when he said you need to respond to your clients wishes. I'm also dealing with deadlines and budget constraints on a daily bases. I can only put so much into it the images without breaking my client's financial back. Most of my clients tend to have a traditional buyer demographic. I'm an architect by trade and my personal taste tends to lean towards a contemporary style.

Arkitec, I agree with you about the ceiling in the Den area. I still need to tweak that a bit.

DP, the plants are modeled from scratch. In fact everything you see in the renderings are modeled from the ground up.

To sum it up, I see some weaknesses in the renderings. This is my first attempt with Vray and I'm still learning the settings. One of my weaknesses is materials. For example, the stainless appliances-I'm not that happy with the overall feel. The other is the fluid in glasses. Could someone please give some pointers on this? I can not seem to get a realistic or consistent look, wine, beer, etc. Even the pots over the island look flat.

                Thanks again everyone,

                Scott.

You did great work with those plants. Did you model these in max, or do you have specialized software to make the plants?

                  Thanks,

                    j-bug:

nothing to say about scotts skills, but i did not judge scotts technical abilities. i wish to see more content, meaning, ideas whatever you call it.
instead of five images, one with a thoughtful composition.
regarding skills i can say to scott same like j-bug: wish i had your skills

and you are right it's nobodies "fault" - just my bad english

                    reyner:

to me it does not look like a work for a client - that indeed would be a totaly different story. but then i would still miss some "life" in these pictures.
from my point of view its okay to be hyper-real, but then why:
so many plants an no people, a fireplace and nobody there, a pot-plant
                    on the dining table,...

personally i don't have the patients (and the time) to get into so much detail (if that was all modelled by scott). i'd rather work on an "athmosphere".
i promise will post some images, just needs some time.
(and yes i will not feel happy to read bad crits about my lousy work.)

                    scott:

edit: so it was work for a client modelled from ground up first time with vray. so then i see a future for you and i hope you get other clients soon.
regarding materials: maybe using vray-mat with with some reflection could help the stainless appliances (and some other parts).

old:/don't get me wrong, i didn't want to offend you.

did you modell all the plants and the furniture by yourself or did you
                    use ready-mades?/

and as said before i'd like to see more from you.

I did all of the modeling myself from scratch in Max including the plants and there was no offence taken by your comments. I have pretty thick skin and any comment is welcome. If we became defensive about every critical comment that was made about our work, then none of us would ever grow.

                      Take it easy,

                      Scott.

                          Very nice renders!

My only comment would also be the ceilings, but that is in the works you said so....

The modeling is absolutely first rate! You must have spent a great deal of time on this project judging by the quality. I can never get a client to agree to ground up, it makes the image so much better and original.

Great work, love to see more. I would love to see this house in the daylight!
