  • My first Vray :o)

    Hi,

after some test in the last days I start to use Vray for a small architecture project - a personal wellness area. The image is a WIP, but I'm so happy about the speed and the quality, so I post it.

It's my first architecture work and I try to find a quick render style for showing materials and lighting. Photoreal is not the goal, it is to precise. I want to find a way, so that the phantasy of the user has enough space.

The image is a combination of a AIR outline rendering and Vray. Rendertime less than a half hour for 800x800 in GI mode (Ir+LC) + seven arealights.

    C&C are welcome.

    -Micha

Wow, I like it very much. I always enjoyed GI render + Rhino wires. Nice work!

          Nice indeed!
BTW as for VRay+Rhino render -=- it's much more faster in Rhino v4! So you need less time with better AA.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Wait a tick- does vray for rhino work in rhino 4.0?!?
Does that mean that the final release will be compatible when Rhino goes to 4.0?

At least for now - it doesn't work. And I think when Rh4 will be available its final stage (now it's beta) - VrfRh will be available too.

What do you mean by "it's faster in Rh4?" You haven't tested that? You are just predicting?

This is because they don?t use Rhino 3 renderer in Rhino 4 but they use quite new rendering engine (called Toucan I think). Simplified version of Toucan is now basic Rhino 4 renderer in fact.

AIR is a full biased scanline renderer based on the renderman standard. AIR is good to use for illustration stuff, but the GI engine is not matured. Additional AIR can be used for cartoon style rendering and simple outline. AIR (com 450,- and full edu 150,-) can be used per interface plugin Rhinoman (free). AIR can be find as Demo at www.sitexgraphics.com and Rhinoman at www.rhinoman.com.

I don't like to make advertisment for AIR here. So, I don't want to forget to say, Vray is for product design and architecture the better choice.

Also you could test the McNeel cartoon renderer Penguin. My problem with penguin is, the simple outline mode show a bad quality here - bad antialiasing and no lines at intersections. Maybe the Penguin 2 will be better. I'm not sure what the price of Penguin is. It could be, that AIR and Penguin have the same price. AIR can not do drawing styles like Penguin.

But the easiest way would be, if Vray for Rhino would do the outline rendering. If I remember right, Vray do it.

An other way could be to export the rhino lines as Adobe Illustrator file and use it in a Vedctor programm. A nice free tool is Expression from www.creaturehouse.com.

So, this is anything I know about outline rendering.

... and here a Penguin example of a current project. It show, why I not use penguin.

                            Hi,
Actually that's a Microsoft program now and you can get it here, it really is a cool tool for mixing images with vector.

If somebody use AIR for outlines, than he should read here. I find a new way to render best quality outlines.
