  • WIP: My first architectural scene.

    Hi to all!

I'm working in my first architectural scene. I Just make a test render
to see how it views in vray. I want to ask about the triangles that it bright on some faces. With scanline renderer doesn't appear. Any comment? How can I make disapear it?

did you build it in max ? sometimes this happens when you import a dwg file.

or did you use "edit mesh" ? it seems that some vertexes are not co-planar......

      Hi
Was it modeled in max or cad...

I modeled in 3d studio max 5 from a box. I make a box, convert to editable poly, and then I start to extrude, cut, insert edges, etc. Poly modeling.

Mmm I test that if I convert to editable mesh, the triangles disapear and looks good. But If i convert to editable poly again, then appear again. What its the way manually to repair it so looks good in editable poly?

Well, really, about the making, I make a box with the dimensions, and I make windows adding edges and extrude inside. I wanna to make it wihout booleans to practice poly modeling.

if you create a rectangle ....then another inside it, then attach the both together then extrude .................thats the way i model most things....

so if you have an elevation of the front of the building you can trace the cad dwg .....attach then you have made the whole front in one piece.

well, I dont have 2d drawing to make the elevation. I only have a front photo as reference. But thats a great way. thanks

Can you show us a wireframe of the building? That might clear something up...

                    Just a wild guess

                    1) I would double check that you don't have any extra vertices which would make the faces not planar. This sometimes happens with insert edge tool and tends to mess up the surface. Go into vertex edit mode, select all vertices and do a Weld. If you get no messages, then it found some extra vertices. I would also zoom in and make sure there are no random vertices on edges where they shouldn't be. This can also produce weird triangulation. If you find some, you can use Target Weld to get rid of them, while maintaining topology.

                    2) make sure your smoothing groups are correct. Extrude poly tool creates no smoothing groups, so you have to fix it manualy.

i have found that vray doesnt like to render editable poly objects....it causes it to show up the hidden lines and makes it look unshaded.

when rendering collapse the mesh back to a editable mesh.

can any one else test this out.

Yes! I test it too. I just creae a box, and conver to editable Poly. If I make a bevel on some face, when I render with Vray it looks bad. But render with scanline looks good. And i's right that converting to editable mesh it looks good. It's that a Vray bug or problem?. Thanks to all answers. :P

i think it may be a bug, i might just post it in the bug section and see what happens.

I can't reproduce it here. Could either of you post a scene with an object that gives you trouble?
