First renders using VRay for SketchUp.

I found it really interesting but still learning how the material editor works.

Anyway, here some quick renders on a non very fast machine: (I used medium settings)

        Hi,

        Thanks for your comments.

Pierrenavarra, for the pictures above I didn't use any VRay materials except for the BMW car that I used the Metal and Glass Vray materials.

Here is another test of an interior. I used the 'gi_qmc_lc_very_high.visopt' preset and I checked the 'Default Light' setting and I set the 'Environment GI' to 10 (making softer shadows)

It took about 7hrs to render on a Athlon 1.8 GHz (original size 800x600)

        Regards,

        woods.

My first reaction is that it looks really good. My second is 7 hours?!
I think there are definitely some simple things about this image that would make it much better. First I would change the camera position and angle. Right now its straight in front of what is the focus of the scene. It doesn't really create that interesting of a composition, and the frames themselves look flat because of that. Another thing about the camera position is that the height of the camera is at an odd spot. Right now its lower than standard eye level, but the height that its at doesn't really do anything for you. I would either lower the camera to just above the floor and have it looking up, or move it up to eye level. As far as the lighting, I know that increasing the GI will give softer shadows, but the by-product of that is the wall being burned next to the window. I would back off the GI and add some light behind and/or to the right of the camera. This would fill out the lighting for the rest of the scene, and prevent some of that burn next to the window.

            Hi,

            Thanks dalomar for your commentaries.

I followed your advices and here is the result.

Also, I checked some of the 'VRay for Rhino' tutorials and I found the 'Tips and Tricks' tutorial very useful (thanks to Micha!)

I got this image in about 1 hr. and 15 minutes on an Athlon 1.8 Ghz. (rescaled to 640x480 px, original size 800x600)

            Thanks again and regards,

            woods.

Great improvement. The different camera placement did so much for the image. I am glad the render times came down as well. Are you still using qmc or are you using ir or lc? My last two things about the image are really simple, and I guess a minor, but might push the image to be that much better. First is the couch. I think it might look a little better a few inches away from the wall. And second, I would apply a different material to the side of the picture frame just to differentiate it from the wall a little bit. Right now the side and the wall are blending together. Again great image and were glad that you're producing great stuff with VfSU.
