      Biebel,

Can you export your visopts for the first scene and post the file for me?

      Thanks,

Maybe this is a bug, uncheck Default Lights in Global Switch options should disable the sun (methink!), ... or not?!

        Btw very nice render!!

          thanks Alto for your comment.
          I will try your suggestion.

          @crubadue:
How can i attach a file to a post?
I can't post a screengrab because the renderoption window doesn't fit on my screen..

you have to put it on a server somewhere and post the link.
or your can send it on ftp.asgvis.com/incoming and send an email to Corey after this.

besides this, your render looks nice. One of the best post in sketchup forum up to date.

              Sorry...I missed the sun part.

If the V-Ray Sky is used at the GI or the Background map then the V-Ray Sun is used. If you do not use the V-Ray Sky there is a default direct light that is used a sun.

So in the case that you want no type of skylight light you need to:

              1. Remove the Sky maps from the GI and Background map slots in the enviroment rollout.
              2. Turn off default lights in the Global Switches rollout.
              3. (Optional) Disable exposure under the Physical Camera section of the Camera rollout.

I will post a scene in just a few minutes.

              Best regards,

              Corey

PS- can't you post the file like you did with your images?

                crubadue,

I tried your suggestions but a 'direct sun' still shows up.

As a workaround i put a surface in the window opening and assigned an emitter layer to it.
This avoids having an overbright sun beam. See picture.

Disadvantage: rendertime increases. When i try to use IRR.map + LC a lot of artifacts (blotches) appear unless i cranck up the settings a lot (rendertime?).
When i use QMC+LC output is better but rendertimes are also higher.
Is this because we can't use vraylights with the beta for now?

                imagesettings:
                QMC+LC (resolution 1024X591)
                max subdiv. 50 (image sampler)
                noise treshold 0.02 (qmc sampler)
                Reinhard+ burn value=0.2 (color mapping)
                subdivs 500 ( light cache)

                rendertime: 1 hour

Try changing the time of day to either the farthest left (morning) or farthest right (night). This might work, but don't quote me on it.

Btw I think we need a moment of silence for Joe's T drive. May it rest in peace.

                      What renders black?

I may have missed a setting. Download my scene in the General section and have a look at the settings.

I tried your scene and see what you mean.
In your example file the sun position is behind the walls and thus you avoid a strong sun beam.
When i change time and set sun position behind the camera the burning sun is there again.

I think there is some misunderstanding here.

I do want to see light from a 'sky' but not the direct sun rays, as it would be on a clouded day.
I want the light to be diffuse without sun burn.

Here your test file with changed sun position.

                          Crubadue,
oops, i just saw the extra parameters that can be set for 'GI' at the 'environment' section of the render options (pressing the 'M' button) .
                          I missed that , sorry.
I can probably tune it there.
Which parameters should i change to obtain the 'overcast/clouded daylight' i want?
turbidity / water vapor / photon radius?

                          thanks for the help.

BTW: this rendering plugin is already great.

                          thank you

wow...that was a bit of a mix up on my part...

                            Sorry for that.

You can change the size multiplier to .0001 to get the effect you are looking for. The problem is that in beta 1 there is a bug that the settings reset for the sun and sky.

                              beibel-

You can download a new beta version from asgvis.com website. There are a couple of things we fixed. One of them is the resetting of the sun/sky settings. We also make it so that there is only one instance of the sky the scene. So you can use the sky as a map for GI and change the settings in only one place. We also added the auto-apply to the linked material. So when you make a linked material you do not have to reselect the model parts and apply the new linked material.

                              Best regards,
