  • Second go with Vray

Hi guys, had to register again, was boodle, as it didnt recognise me, nor would it send me a password reminder etc etc.

anywho, im back with some newer renders after spending a few hours sorting out and building my new material library. and getting to grips with vrays options. still a lot to learn!!

let me know how i can improve on these, im aware that the room needs more details in, but i need to get my general lighting and setting skills up first before we tackle that problem.

the stones on the left, are supposed to be real, but the bump map doesnt seem to be doing much. i made the bump map myself so tats prob the problem, ill attach the bump so u can all see it.

    two vray attempts

I think your on the right track with things. Personally I would go with a lighting that is inbetween the two. I think the first is a little dark and last is a little bright, so a happy medium would be good.

With the bump map its probably not going to get you the effect you want. The main reason is just because bump maps don't do well with details that need to be really deep like those stones. Thats more of a job for displacement, which will be in the upcoming service release. You should also maybe try to have a little more variance with the map itself. Right now its too sharp going from white to black. You also have lost abit of detail from the top of the stones, which would also help.

It looks like its definitely on its way, so I look foward to seeing the finished product.

      Thanks.

ill try again with those improvements. think ill try for something different on that wall. some kind of funky wallpaper.

Lighting wise i think your right, somewhere in between would be good.

the first bump map for the stones i used had a much wider grey scale to it, but i didnt get the 'stepped in' look between the stones so i thought id try a very black/white bump to seee if it did any better, it didnt!

thanks for looking, i got more renders on the way

The release is approaching...it is in sight...patience is a virtue, and your patience will be rewarded with a Vray Service Release. I know we've been talking about it for a while, but it is very much in the works.

As soon as I'm done putting Distributed Rendering in I'll be releasing VfR4 and VfR3 SR1 in beta form. It will be in the next couple weeks.

                Thank You,

I know I push, but so far I am very please with VfR,some glitches but it was expected, but the more you learn the more things you want, especially knowing that most of what I need will be in the next release.

So thanks again and looking forward to both these releases.
