So I've been slightly tired of my background (which is actually my avatar on your left), so I decided to fumble around and make a new one. So I had this model of basically a 3D plus sign, so I decided to see if I could make it have some cool translucency. I don't know why I keep going with the blue+red=purple color scheme, but I like the contrast between the surface color and the glow. I could use some suggestions for different color combos just to see what else is out there. I also am not to happy with the ground plane. Its fine I guess, but I just think it could be better. C&C welcome. Final render to be done later today

... one thought more: could be a rule: if glow, than dark environment for better visibility.www.simulacrum.de - visualization for designer and architects

Re: 3D Plus- Translucency Experiment
The environment itself is actually not as bright as it seems. I knew that I would have to keep a dark environment to have the glow be more visible, but I still wanted it to appear as though it was lit quite evenly. So the groundplane actually is an emissive material, with just enought luminosity to appear white without overly influencing the lighting of the scene. In fact the environment is only at .6 (white color) and there are two faint lights in the background. The glow itself is actually coming from 2 rectangular lights behind the plus on each of the backsides which are not visible to the camera. Screen shot of the setup below.

Re: 3D Plus- Translucency Experiment
Yea so I've dropped the 3d plus for the time being. Getting the right color combo to work is proving to be a much more tedious task then I thought, so I'll come back to it a little later. As for now I moved to an scene that I hadn't messed around with in a while. I originally wanted to do it for the CG sphere thing that Micha brought up a while back, but never submitted it. This is actually done with the newest build for V4(it will be public in a short time) as I thought it should be put through its paces. I personally like the flatness of it, yet at the same time it has some 3dimensionality to it. Enjoy...as always c&c welcome
