I like the render. Although it is a simple image there is so much I'd like to know about it. [list][*]render settings, are they one of the 'standard' ones?[*]how did you get the spotlight effect?
    • I take it that you have used a bump map for the wood - how do you do that and where do you put the bump?

      Re: cross

noise threshold under QMC .001 GI. Primary engine-Irradiance MAp (min-2 max 0)rendering time aboutless than 30 minutes. secondary engine light map (default setting)
the bump was actually my experiment. its a trial and error. i made the wood map i used black and white using photoshop and i tick the bump map under diffuse. mapping exactly is still a struggle, its based more on trial and error rather than knowing how will it map on the face. aparently i was frustrated with this because the grain of my linked mtl map does not match with the bump map. if you will look closely with the image, all bumps were map horizontally rather than horizontal on horizontal slab and vertical on the vertical slab. i understand mapping is still complicated issue under this beta so let us wait and be patient. but i think one important thin to bear in mind with the wood is adding a slight reflection.

lights. i used 2 vray rectangularlights. 1 light directly on top of the cross and another big infront about 3 meters away from the cross. this one is much bigger plane. at the moment i onbly used rectanglular vray because of its soft shadow. hopefully next time the sphere one willhave soft shadow.

      cheers

        Thanks for the info.
I want to get bumps on a brick texture, so I'll have a go based on your success. Maybe the 'horizontal' bump issue won't be quite such an issue with bricks.
