    Re: Shoe101

I saw them on the newsgroup...very nicely done. I really like the laces...I don't know why, but I think there great. Is there a little displacement on the lining of the shoe? I would like to see a few more views maybe. I know you've done good renders of soles, so it might be cool to see one on its side or something. Great work.

      Thanks Damien

What is lining? must work on my English
If i remember correctly the only displacement is in the white material that simulates sooth textile.

Another problem I had is that without the 2.2 gamma I couldn’t show the black rubber correctly, even with lots of light(and then was too bright), this much better with the correct gama but I'm still not happy, maybe in future renders.

I'll post something new as soon as I have some time

I hope the vray book doesn't take too long to come out because I still don't know what is the purpose of many of the options in vray, specially the new ones like physical camera, sun, sky, etc.

      Thanks

Yes, well done image ... and like allways a little bit to dark.

Without gamma 2.2 output the reflections of dark materials will be killed. I post some experiments some months befor ... the beginning of the LWF discussion here.

Its like the inside part of the shoe. The kind of fuzzy stuff. Don't worry about your english...we seem to make it work with our foreign friends

about the gamma correction thing. I'd really like for it to be working correctly, so unfortunately it kind of more of a hold back to have it there, but not working then to not have at all

Lastly, the book is in its final stages. It should be getting sent out to print very soon. The sections for the new features are already written. They will include physical camera, sun and sky, new materials (vray2sided and skp2sided), displacement, dr, and per object environments. And it has pretty much everything else.

I do agree - the gamma correction has been a thorn in my side. We started off trying to correct everything that used a color. This yielded incorrect results. So now we're only correcting things that are used as "colors" and not solely as "intensities or strengths". For instance we are not currently gamma correcting anything used as a transparency. The logic behind this is that its not actual used as a color - its meant to tell us how much light is passing through it and if we correct it we will be dampening the output by making it impossible to let light pass through it entirely. If you have any particular insight on what is not getting gamma corrected properly then I'm all ears.

Its very hard to gauge what is "correct" or not. Especially if you are gauging this "correctness" on the sRGB mode of the VFB alone - as this is just a hack anyway.
