  • Bathroom - First attempt

    Hi all,

First attempt at this bathroom scene.

    I used LC + QMC. Render time: 3h 17min.

Just a little of post processing in Photoshop (color balance and brightness)

This is just a test, I still have to add some more details to the scene.

Question: What material could I use for the ceiling? I used just a plain Vray Material with color white, but it seems very 'dirty' to me.

Anyway, I hope you like it.

    Hi all,

    This is my second try.

    The ceiling still very 'dirty'.

What material could I use for it?

      Re: Bathroom - First attempt

Other than the adding of all the little things (towels, plant, toilet paper) I actually like the first render a bit better. To me the second render looks too bright. Not that I don't think that those windows would be bright depending on the sun coming in, but for the image it just is quite distracting. Youe eye is drawn to the biggest brightest thing, and in the second shot thats like half the image. Not to mention all of the details of the vanity are now burned out. If your using the physical camera then I would bring the exposure down a bit, or if you've saved as an hdr you can mess with the exposure in photoshop, or another option would be to render it out again and adjust the exposure in the frame buffer.

All that aside its still a great image...btw 3:17 is pretty good for that image with QMC...any chance you could share some system specs?

        Great Image! ;D

My only suggestion would be to perhaps add a little depth to the windows. It appears a little flat. How did you model that wall? Other than that, this is a Great image. Would you mind sharing some of your settings?

          Indeed, good job.
          You ain't a novice, V-rayly speaking
          It is very photo realistic.
I like the washed windows, some lights leaks on the ceiling, though (in the corners)

But for people spendng so much $ for the bath room furnitures, I think they won't leave the tootsbrush and tootspaste next to the sink, especially if they want to have a nice picture of the space ;D ;D ;D

What is your machine specs by the way ? Is it a next gen ?

          Cheers
          Tom

            Hi all,

            Thanks for your commentaries.

I agree with you all, the image was too bright.

I tried to play a little bit with the sun parameters and this is what I got.

            Original Output:
            Photoshoped #1:

            Photoshoped #2:

I still can't find a good material for the ceiling, it still looks very dirty.

Also, I still get some lights leaks on the ceiling.

But for people spendng so much $ for the bath room furnitures, I think they won't leave the tootsbrush and tootspaste next to the sink, especially if they want to have a nice picture of the space
I totally agree with you ;D I just wanted to make it more realistic.

            I work on a Toshiba Laptop Intel Core 2 T7200 @ 2GHz 2GB RAM

Render time for this new picture: 2h 53min. LC+QMC

Again, thank you for you commentaries.

              Re: Bathroom - First attempt

I vote for the second one. They are all great, but the first has a very subtle red tone to it and the third is a bit too undersaturated (the walls at least). One question I have it...where's the bath mat? Chances are your going to have a little rug somewhere so you don't fall or something. Besides that its there.

As far as the ceiling, I'm not really sure what your getting at. To me the ceiling looks fine, and if your using QMC then it is going to be very very very hard to get that ceiling to be smooth. If you really want smooth try IR with Detail enhancement, that might speed things up as well (although those times are pretty good). If your using QMC then there shouldn't be any light leaks, so I'm not really sure whats going on with that one.

                Re: Bathroom - First attempt

I think the last one (photoshopped#2) is the best - its a little cooler. The whole image is excellent, and I don't think the ceiling is 'dirty' it just looks normal. I think the little touches like the toilet roll, towels and vase all add to the realism.
I would be tempted to put a large plant to the right of the windows to fill up what is otherwise an empty space.

                Very impressive.
