  • WIP - Architectural Exterior Rendering

As a newbie to 3D modeling and Vray so I thought I would post my latest project for your critique.

I'm trying to get this as realistic as the rest of you guys manage to achieve. If you have any suggestions for alterations please post them!

Be gentle, I'm new to this!!

    hi
try lighting the scene with an HDRI Map and a subtle vray light......soften them shadows up a bit.
and maybe get a better map for the roof tiles, and some nice reflections on the glass will help a lot.

    Regards

the sky seems too blue (horizons are lighter and have more gray)...and it seems a little strange that those large walls have no windows or any defining feature to them

I think you could make a really good out of this image. I like very much that is very simple. Nothing useless on it. Tweak color/lighting thats it.

          Those are digipeople aren't they?

Firstly, thanks for the advice and complements. Much appreciated!!

Natty - I'd love to get into HDRI maps but don't know where to start. Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial or two and a source of HDRI maps? Not sure what I can reflect in the glass so I'll have to think about that one. Do you where I can find a decent roof tile map? This is the only one I have!

Dynedain - Good point. I'll add some windows and use a different sky jpeg.

losbellos - I want to try Natty's lighting suggestion so that should improve it!!

shytigercp - I've changed the gamma but it didn't change much. I'll see how it works with Natty's suggestions. And yep, they Digipeople. Best I could come up with!!

Thanks guys. Anymore advice much appreciated. I'll post the revised image as soon as I can.

It helpped me out with initial info on HDRI.

Well, I've finally had a chance to get round to finishing this image off.

I must say big thanks to Natty without who I would never have got this far.

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on how to make the people look better I want to hear from you!!

wow, looks tons better. This camera angle is much more realistic. For the people, they always seem to look better with a little blur, motion blur if they are moving.

i think your monitor calibration/gamma is a little out of wack. Although real people aren't perfect, the rest of the image looks dark here in comparison and the realpeople look about right in terms of brightness. Playing with levels in photoshop the image looks better with a lighter gamma.

Realpeople often look odd because of their lighting, if you going to use them then try using them in areas where its not so obvious....or shoot some people with a digital camera that have a more direct lighting to them (wait for a sunny day). I'd also shoot some foliage and map or composite that onto the shot for the fence (which looks like its has too few uprights)...oh and it looks a like your brick piers could be floating.

A good improvemnent over the 1st render.
