  • Background WIP...suggestions please

    Hey everyone,
I am a Vray Advanced user, but haven't done much "using" in a while. I am creating a few backgrounds for a game UI and thought I'd give Vray a chance. So, here is the first of 4.

I will be adding bullet holes and more debris, but I wanted some opinions before adding the fine details.

    Fire away!

All looks great except the flat color of the window and the poster looks to far from the wall. Didn't they usually slap those old posters up with some watered down paste or something? Might look cool kinda stretched across and sunk into the grout.

Thanks, I'll work on the glass. The poster posed a problem because the wall uses a displacement modifier and it would make the stone pop out of the poster. I can't figure out how to get the two to work together.

I once read something about how a standard max displacement mod will match value-2-value with the VRay Disp. Ths can be used in conjunction with a meshsmooth to see the disp in view.

looks like a model..ie a small scene model...could it be the camera FOV/lighting?

Good point, I see what you're saying DP. Might be due to the lack of blurry reflections or even the detail of the environment used for GI. jsonedecker, did you use an HDRI?

Some stained leakage on the stones would add another level of detail.

Yeah, it does come off looking like a model. I guess it's the lighting, but I'm not sure how to "scale" the lighting.

I used a yellowish point light with the Vray Environment Overide set to a blueish grey with a multiplier of 0.3

I woul dlike to try hdri for lighting, but couldn't find a suitable free image.

I would reduce the textures overall scale. Also be carefull about the shadow, 'cause it seems to be illuminated from some kind of Luxo Spot, maybe this is increasing the model feeling.

                  Regards,
                  Joao.
