Re: First render and big project

    Hello,

concerning the background i would use a spherical picture.
I will tell you how to do this:
In the vray options dialog you should click on the environment tab. Now you can see 4 slots to which maps can be applied, for your purpose only "environment" and "background" should be active. you can now click on the "m" button next to the background multiplier box. Now there should appear a new pop up dialog box ,were you can specify which type of map you need. You will see a fly out box with the word "none", click on the box and choose "bitmap" as your map type. Now some new settings will appear on the right side of the screen. under the "uvw" settings change the button from the default "texture" to "environment", the and leave the rest of the settings at their default value ("spherical"). Next click on the "m" next to the word "file". You can now choose a file to act as your background image, for a spherical background image you need a picture like this:

(please do not use this picture without the owners permission it is just an example
you can maybe do a search for 360 degree panoramas in the forum or in google to find some free stuff...)

The picture should have a ratio of 2:1 and cover the entire Panorama with sky and ground from a vertical range of 180 and a horizontal range of 360 degrees.

the last thing to adjust is the value for the intensity multiplier of the bitmap. This is very dependent on your scene, e.g. settings of your camera and also by the picture itself e.g. if it is a hdri map.
I would suggest you start with 1 and render out a fast preview to check if the multiplier is appropriate. If there is only a black background or the background is very dark, try to multiply the value by 10 and continue to do so until you see some changes, now you can fine tune the value to your needs.

    hope that helped

    Andy
