    Re: Another HDRI Test

Ah thanks David for the info...
Hummm I see ur other experiment stefaq...
How do u make the bakground like the HDRI image?
The object is look like in the real place...Is it model or just Background?
Hummm..By the way I've already try another one with Enviroment:
The GI i just used the skylight
And the background I put HDRI

Then it works...with sunlight shadow....( refers to ur other experiment posting stefanq)

    Thanks again,
    Nick

      Re: Another HDRI Test

Yes Nick, that is corect. But as far I know, the hdri are so great because you ca illuminate the scene, more real, because it is alot of information regarding
light, colors...that's why is great to use hdri. In background you can have not necesary o hdri file.
In the other scene, I put a box with some concrete material, and add the chairs and the spheres. Anything else is hdri, as background and skylight.
You could rotate the hdri to match the perspective with model, but you will need to render one- two times to see actualy what's the pozition. I do it horizontaly, in little steps, by 45 degreaze.

Hi boodtide, Nick already dowload the file..don't know why you got that error..

            Re: Another HDRI Test

Another stupid quest of me, I thought the HDRI map is just the sphecial sky with full of Ur image when fit in it. So with the background, when I try to put the HDRI map on it, it became a dark ground, ( the sky is still full of lightning ) can U tell me why this happen to me >"<

              Re: Another HDRI Test

Are you try illuminate an interior scene with that HDRI? If yes, well, is not enough light coming through the windows, I try that too and I was not happy with the result I was geting...I'm still a newbie, and I'm still make experiments, so what I found so far is that it's great to use HDRI but only when you render an object, a product, like a stereo echipament, or a car for exemple. Any way , if you use physical camera, try to make the multiplier biger, like 1000 or 1200..that depends from hdri to hdri.

                Re: Another HDRI Test

Here it is some free hdri from evermotion, only sky, but I don't know what kind of file, (spherical map, horizontal cross, light probe etc), and this is important when you are mapping the file, because those need to be mapped by type, spherical like mine, cilindrical, mirror ball etc

hello there brother! i was wondring how i can get softer shadows while using hdri as my light source... is that possible?? thanks!

                    [/img]

hi i tried the hdri and am abit pleased with the results..thanks for stefanq for the hdri sample...

p.s. stefanq could you tell me how to do proper mapping of materials..so that i could prevent tiling..also could you tell me how you apply the materials, they look very realistic..do you use bump maps or displacement to achieve such realism..??thanks

                        Re: Another HDRI Test

Nice result you have there, aldz! I always apply my textures via sketchup, then I link that material. In this way I have control over the size of the maps, the tilling... even I can scale the textures ( right click on a surface, choose texture, position) or rotate and move it.I never used displacement, only bump maps, and sometimes, specular maps, for controlling the reflection. That depends of course, what maps do you have for a particular texture(diffuse, bump, specular etc.) About the tilling and repetitive textures, I try to use 'tileable' textures, or to use very big textures. You can make a texture tillable, using photoshop, or gimp, this last one it's free. There are lots of tutorials about how to make tillable texturestillable, but it's better to have some good ones (I have total textures).I think that realistic look, it was achieved because I use HDRI for lightning and environment.
                        Keep up the good work!
                        Regards,
                        Stefan

Thanks for the compliment stefanq..specular maps??? never heard about it yet..could you further elaborate on that if you may..please. and how do i apply it..and with regard to the textures, i'd try to explore more on that tillable textures. i've always wanted to achieve photo realistic renderings..or just even close to it..it gives me fulfillment everytime i make one..thanks for the information in advance stefanq..

                            Re: Another HDRI Test

Hi again, sorry but I was busy, and I didn't have enough time until now to make a proper tutorial about applying specular maps. So,this are the maps that I'll use,for diffuse and specular:

As you can see,the specular one it's like a bump map, and what he does basically it's controlling the reflection( reflect where it's white). Here you can see where to put this kind of map:

OK.. here the render without reflection

                            Here with simple reflection

Here with the reflection map ( specular map)

As you can see, the black part of the material it's not reflecting anything, because the white part of the specular map, correspond with the yellow zone of the our diffuse map.
That's it! Simple and effective! This effect it's very nice on other materials, like silk, wallpaper, rusted metallic surfaces etc.
I hope that I make my self clear enough, my English it's not so good. Good luck!

                              Re: Another HDRI Test

Paulo, hi there, don't know that one, I tried once to use a omni light, but everything was burned, so I only get my shadows via sketchup, but when you use hdri in skylight , you can not use the sun size multiplier anymore...so if you don't like the sketchup shadows, I believe you could use another light source for shadows, but I'm not really made such an experiment so far. Just with that omni experiment. Maybe you could try to use a rectangular light, and tweak the settings of the shadows...If you do such an experiment, maybe you share the result with the rest of us.
                              Regards,
                              Stefan

;D..oh so that's what specular maps are..that was clear enough stefanq..definitely adds more realism with the application of that..well i'd give it a try and i'll just update you with the developments..thanks a lot mah friend..till next time..ciao.. ;D
