  • Why does my lightings look dull??

This is my first VRAY...just knew bout this software +/- 1 month ago.

Why does my lighting looks dull ya??

For this scene, most all of the material tht I've mapped are taken from the SketchUp (SU) default library. I did download a few materials from "http://www.vray-materials.de"....but sadly, i cldnt apply it. It seems tht the material are not meant for VRAY-SU. Maybe u guys hav a converter or something..i would really love to know.

Would also dying to know bout "visop". What was that??

    This is my first rendering:

    This is the second one:

    ***********************

How can i acheived such rendering like this?? :

    Thank you in advance. ;D

which light are you referring to??
Sunlight from outside the window or the lights(bulb)/?

if it is the light bulbs:

I noticed that your lights at the ceiling was inserted can light, try to crop the ceiling inside the can lights, it might covering the lights to pass through.

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

      Thanks "ckosio".

I was referring to the sunlight. How to increase the intensity of the sunlight without making my rendering looks fake ya??

One more thing, my mirror looks super ugly how to improve it ya? (reflection) etc.

What is "visop"?? What does it do?

      * sorry for asking such amateur question. :-[

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

Those beautiful renders was made by yali, if I remember...and he really understood 'the lightning business', I mean, he is really really good!!
Regarding your renders, I believe you are using one of my shared hdri, right?
So go to the GI(Skylight)/M/ and change the multiplier of the hdri map.
I f you have the hdri map only in environment slot, then you can modify the sun parameters( make the SIZE from 1 to 6 maybe 10 for soft shadows, and the multiplier from 1 to 2 or 3...)
The mirror...the mirror reflect what it's suppose to reflect, and I believe your wall behind the camera was left without any material on it. You can put a image(jpg) on that wall(import/jpg) and scale it over the wall, and your mirror will have something nice to reflect.I believe you have the correct settings for the mirror( from the manual)
The visopt= render settings, witch you can save them ( as .visopt) and use them when you want. Some smart guys found different settings for quality, for speed(small render time) etc. and you can download them and use them in you renders.
Of course, if it is an exterior visopt(for exteriors) you have to use it in exteriors scenes.
OK, if you have more questions, don't be shy to ask!

kea the visopt you can use the visopt that you download...just click the file>load> then search the location where you save the visopt you download..you just edit the output for fast render,,,...try and try dude..aslos use photoshop to enhance the lightings....

whOAAHHH!! tHANKyou people for helping me out...really helps!

              * btw..could u guys give me the links to any of the website tht u guys usually go for a good materials/ texture? i'm dying for a good metal materials.

              * what type of file format that VRAYforSU can support ya?? because for the moments, i can only linked the one tht is on the "image" type(jpeg & bmp). Why cant i use the ".vismat" tht i've downloaded from the download section?

or perhaps i'm not doing it the right way (for the moment, i just link it through sketchup paint bucket>materials>creat material>browse)...if so...it would be much appreciated if u guys could tell me the details. =)

              thank you in advance.

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

                Keanuar,

You should really read through the manual for Vray for Sketchup. It will answer a lot of the basics. A vismat is a small file that contains various settings that apply to Vray. It has nothing to do with sketchup really. Often when you download a vismat, you will need to place a picture file into the diffuse slot (click the "m" under bitmap). If you hit the update button, you will see a preview of the texture. The texture can then be applied to a face in sketchup by right clicking on it and choosing Vray for sketchup>apply material. Vray supports .jpg, .png, .bmp, but does not support .tif files. Also, when using HDRI for lighting, don't forget to turn on physical camera, or increase the multiplier to 10K+. Hope that helps. Post some pics of your new renders when you can.

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

First and foremost, BIG THANK & HUGE GRATITUDE to all the people that have been aiding me for the past one month....especially CKOCIO, STEFANQ & EARTH MOVER. You guys are the man!

This is my latest rendering, my very first interior rendering using VRAY-SU that I’ve done for a local government project in the northern part of Malaysia.

Yes this is very..very…VERYYYyyy basic rendering. Achieved only after I manage to understand the basic elements of VRAY-SU (material mapping, lighting, GI, etc….).

Please C&C me….i really needs your guidance for the other parts of the building.

                  Thank you.

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

Looking good from that distance...but you should put a large image so we can see all the details, or the link for the image.Looks like it's a difficult scene to illuminate, what render time did you have?

Sorry Stefanq bout the previous image size....i've modified it already :P

Done on a Compaq Presario V3759 laptop, 1.83GHz Core2Duo, 3Gb ramm, Vista Ultimate..... took me about 5hours to complete. =( (is it normal???)

*kakakakaka....i just noticed that only one of my column lights is working. Damn! :P *

By the way....i'm facing difficulties to download the vismat files from the download section. Why ya?? server probs? Is there any other website tht offers vismat files?

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

Looking much better my friend! Good work indeed. Looks like you are getting a little bit of noise in your render, what preset are your using? Also, 5 hours seems a bit much. What are you using for primary and secondary engine types?

Re: Why does my lightings look dull??

Thanx EarthMover. Yeah, the noise has been quite a pain in the ass in every of my renderings.

For ths rendering, i only use the HDRI from the "Camaro tutorial" in GI (amount 12, multiplier 6), Background (amount 6, multiplier 3), Reflection (default...as i still havnt really understand what does this will resulted) and Refraction (default). "Default Light" off, output sets to 1500x700. "Deterministic Monte Carlo" for primary engine, and "Light cache" for secondary (btw, what does the multiplier for engine setup means ya?? i just leave it to default: 1)

The rest of the settings are default.

Once again, is there any other website tht offer "vismat" files?? i'm having diffulties in finding a good materials for tiles. also some of the materials offered in the dload section seems like having some errors. failed to dload it.
