    Re: Pool Party

    Chisel,

My machine is running with an Intel Q6700 Quadcore, 6 GB Ram, NVDIA 9500 Geforce and Vista 64 bit. I bought this machine for faster rendering specifically. VRay has been considerably faster than the other renderers I use, except with handling displacement. Any ideas? Also, how do you turn on the feature that shows the render time on outputs?

          Re: Pool Party

I solved some of my issues. I think my speed issues where due to having other trial water material that I forgot to delete from VRay. I also had a few .tif materials that could've caused some slow down. When I removed the irrelevant textures, my render time was back to normal. This allowed me to do some further testing of my water. I think I'm finally happy with it. I actually took a glass texture out of the repository and added a water texture to the diffuse. I changed the IOR to 1.33. Set a noise displacement map with the setting 4.5 amp/1.5 freq/size 8 with a multiplier of .15.

OK EartmM now you're talking! Superb result! I just ask myself, how it will look with some lighter blue tiles. Thanks for sharing the settings as well!

                              Re: Pool Party

Sorry guys. I haven't had much time lately. Both my water texture and HDRI are commercial images, or I would be happy to share. Other that the HDRI and the above material settings, I used Mado Ext Visopt. I think what really made this water texture come to life is the HDRI I used and the camera angle. I've tried to use the same vismat in other situations and the water doesn't quite look right. I've come to accept the fact that water is one of the those things that requires tweaking, unless it is applied under the same visopt every time. I usually try to set up my lighting before my model becomes too heavy. The same with water. This way you can render really fast and make tweaks quickly. Get it just right, then do the heavy modeling. I wish I had more time to mess with water. I've been caught up messing with lights and trying to get stainless steel to look right!
