  • Hotel Ballroom

Here is a recent project of a Hotel Ballroom. I have to make sure I give props to solo over on the podium forum (I think I see him on here from time to time as well) for making that coverd chair for me. I dont have sub + smooth yet or probably the ability to do it and I couldnt find a good import but so he took my request on podiums forum and made it for me. Thanks again man; it looks amazing. Any critques or feedback are greatly appreciated and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks guys. Yeah Nomer, Solo made it with the sub+smooth...I finally got my hands on it today. What a great tool. It takes some practice but you can do some great stuff with it.

Yeah its definately not gonna give 3d max a run for its money, at least not yet. But its a step in the right direction. We just need the SU guys to stop taking baby steps with things like this and really get into a full stride and start developing more useful and stable tools cause there are a lot of people of this forum and others like the podium one that are ready to take SU to that next level. It seems like SU was originally just starting as a tool for designers to visualize the product but these rendering engines have taken it to a whole new level and the SU boys need to get on board a little more, even if it will cost the consumer a little bit. I would be willing to pay, wouldnt you? I dont want to have to learn new programs, but unfortunately Im already trying to get comfortable with 3dmax cause I have no choice. There is too much organic modeling out there, and i know ultimately ill just export it into sketchup and render there, but it would be nice to able to do it all in SU. Ok im done ranting.

              Re: Hotel Ballroom

I'm with you Steeler. There have been some big strides toward more organic modeling in the ruby department, but a lot of these are limited by the language they are programmed in. I too have been learning Max for about a month now. It is a very challenging transition when you come from a program like sketchup. Max becomes very counter intuitive.....even using Vray in Max is frustrating. Sketchup is getting there though. It's amazing to see what Solo and others are doing with some of the new tools. Now if sketchup only could develop good lathing, lofting and mapping tools, there would be no need for Max.

                Re: Hotel Ballroom

Yeah earthmover lets just pray that the SU guys start to realize the demand in the world of design and architecture. Architects and designers, for the most part, do not need programs like 3dmax. They are very powerful tools but seem to be more geared towards animation and gaming.

But off of that subject...here are a few updates. I just touched up the one view in PS and rendered a new view. These images were kinda intended for me to just mess around with some lighting effects in post processing and I know that they are extremely exaggerated and not realistic but I think you can get some cool effects that can sometimes help sell your ideas. Just my thoughts...let me know what you think, anyone.

                      Re: Hotel Ballroom

i think these are very nice renders but i also think its a bit too much on the lighting effects. but they are great effects but should be use a bit more sparingly.

yeah chisel. I would definately change the lighting effects before I handed these to a client. I was more or less just playing around, but thank you for the feedback. The knoll studio has some pretty kool stuff and i would suggest to everyone for their post processing.
