  • Hospital Exterior

I did this rendering and had a little trouble at first. I couldnt get the windows to work quite right because I had no images of the surroundings to use billboards for the reflections and I didnt have time to model surroundings, but when I put it all together in Photoshop I was glad I didnt do that. Just looking at the way the sun is shining on the buildings, there really is not too much reflection in any of the buildings so I feel like it may have worked out ok. Let me know what you think please cause I could use any critiques or feedback, especially when it comes to exterior scenes. Thank you in advance.

First, I think you have done a great job matching the geometry and also sorting out all the foreground clutter, which must have been a big job.
I think the main issue is - it needs more contrast and some reflections on the glass. Both of these so that they match the building along the street. Even if the reflections are different than the existing building, they just need to be believable. What vismat are you using for the glass?

Yeah i should probaby bump the fresnel IOR some and I did have a ground level that the building sat on but I took it out before i rendered it. That would have probably helped bounce some light up onto the windows and made them a little less dark. Right? Do u think bumping up the refraction IOR would help at all?

Without seeing what your current glass setting is, it is difficult to say. I suggest you use the 'architectural glass' vismat, with the fresnel refract colour set to a luminence of about 80 (leave the IOR alone). 'bouncing light' onto the building will not make the glass darker, in fact the glass needs to be lighter higher up, because it should be reflecting the sky, and darker lower down becauase it should be reflecting the buildings etc on the other side of the road.
I think that you are nearly there with this. Increasing the contrast, in PS, will make it a lot better.

jigsaw: that looks great. I should have thought of that. The images you used look like the work perfect for the scene. Is there any chance you could upload them so I can use them and give it a try to make it look like that.

dcauldwell: Thanks for all the input. Im gonna try that and see what I come up with. Yours and jigsaws feedback willl really help
