These are my first renders! I would appreciate any feedback on lighting and getting rid of the blotches underneath the robot. Cheers everyone.

Looks great! I think I like the darker image the best. What light settings are you using? There a few ways to reduce blotches depending on your settings.

The only lights I have are a rectangular one above the model and GI is turned off.

        Re: First Render

        You could try...

        1. Increase your subdivs of the rectangular light in your properties
        2. If you are using light cache then maybe increase your subdivs to somthing like 2000
        3. Under Iridiance Maps - Increase you HSph. Subdivs to 2000
        4. Change DMC Sampler - Adaptive amount to 0.8
        5. Image sampler - change to adaptive subdivison

These are all settings that can be adjusted to help. Be warned though as some will greatly increase the render times. Some of them don't need to be adjusted to the extent that I can given above, you just ahve to play around with the settings to achieve whats best for your scene as every scene is different and requires different settings.

Another good way to start is by using the pre customised settings provided by v-ray.
