  • Kitchen Rendering

I've been working with v-ray for about a year now, here's a rendering of the kitchen for house that were designing in the states. It took about 1 hr and 30 mins to render, size 1000x350 pixels. It's missing some context in the back, I have yet to try and throw image reflection in the glass. I'm happy with it but I still feel like its missing something...

Any suggestions or tips are welcomed

      Re: Kitchen Rendering

Some people do make them up, but I think that most people troll the internet to find good size grains, and by size I refer to the area of the grain, the bigger the area of the wood grain image the better, the last thing you want to be doing is tile or stretching your wood grain image, I use to have terrible trouble getting them to look correct.
I now use wood grain images that represent a real world size of 2700 mm x 1200 mm (about 8’ 10” x 3’ 11”) and that covers most of the door and drawer sizes, mapping it correctly is the trick I use to map them all wrong and found my self banging my head on my desk wondering how this was done, I was letting the textures fit to the door or drawer size witch resulted in all different scales on different door and drawer sizes. Now every door and drawer gets its texture set to the same size of 2700 x 1200, the 2700 represents the run of the grain and the 1200 is across the grain that being the real world size of the wood grain image I am using.
Take a look at some of my renders to see how they look. I posted some of these grains in the download area, download them and try them, I am sure you will get better results using the large area they offer.
If you have a specific wood you are looking for let me know and I will see if I have it, if I do I will post it up.
      Regards

          Thanks MarkO and Micha.

I downloaded some larger wood texture maps and I'll go back and re work the texture.

I was also thinking about it last night after looking at some other renderings. My rendering feels kind of flat. I'm not sure if its the lighting or maybe i have to play with the materials. As of now, I have a couple of lights. The sun, a box light inside the room and a box light outside of the window.

            Re: Kitchen Rendering

when you're working with the texture and scaling, do you select all of the cabinet doors and scale or do you go one by one?

              Re: Kitchen Rendering

              Hi jhenry44,
With regards to your renders looking flat, this may be over exposure, depending on your light settings and that you are using the sun and a light externally and internally.
Regarding the texturing of the doors I do them one by one and in some cases part by part as in my sliding robes.
Micha will keep you straight on this

Hi Micha, tried the link and got the textures thanks, quite narrow but good length. Have you tried any of the ones I uploaded, I have about 30 like this and also the same at A4 size which are excellent if you are working on small items such as chess boards, I have still to upload a few of the a4 version and would like to upload all of them or at least the more common woods.

              Regards
              Mark

Mark, your textures are very good and if you could upload it, that would be great!!! You could pack all textures in one ZIP archiv and upload it at http://www.megaupload.com (max. file size 1GB).
