  • The Bend

    Hi all...

This is my first post on the forum. Thought I might take a stab at posting some of the design projects I have been slaving over.

This theoretical project was conceptualized as a response to a Best Western anticipated to go on the same site located in Marfa, Texas right off of the main highway that leads into town. The program is a 40 room hotel+restaurant+bar.

As far as the renderings are concerned. I utilized the 30-Day demo version of VfSU (1.5 I think) to complete the renderings. I was quite impressed with some of the new features, in my opinion it has come a long way from the version that I started out with. Anyways, I used V-Ray Sun and Physical Camera with no artificial lighting (omni or rectangular lights). I was fotunate enough to be able to set up an overnight rendering farm at the firm I work at so rendering time and settings were not really an issue. As far as materials go almost every one was custom made from textures on the web. Not much post-processing took place except for the entourage (figures, trees, and background). The style is a little bit more conceptual than what I am used to seeing on the forum, but given the time constraints and scale of the project I thought it was appropriate.

I would greatly appreciate any comments / critiques. Thanks in advance!

Very nice renders. My personal opinion is that 'ghost' entourage really distract a viewer from the scene so I'd either get rid of them completely or go for realistic looking ones.
For example, the ghost trees in your second image make that area look blown out completely and you cant tell whats going on. The rest of the models look great!
