  • New Marina Restaurant Renderings

Here are some of my most recent renderings. This project literally was designed and rendering in about a week and a half as a proposal for a restaurant. The building you see in the background of the one image is an old cork factory that was converted in to lofts and the owner was thinking about creating a restauarant beside it that had part of its deck hanging over the river with access to the neighboring marina. It was a fun project that moved very quickly and I would change some things like some of the photos that were used for compositing the backgrounds, but we did what we could with the given photos & time frame. I hope you all like the images.

        Very nice! Loving the fire

Can I ask where you get the silhouettes from? Particularly of the people sitting down. Thanks!

thanks for the comments guys. The people are from "form fonts". They were a combination of different types of people (SU billboard people & realistic billboard people) that I just edited in photooshop and turned into silhouettes

              Super job Steeler!
              I like it.
Can you tell a bit about the render times, poly count and illumination?

              Stevebo,
Silhouettes can be found easaly on the web, even as Ps brushes.
              Here's an example http://dezignus.com/silhouettes-megaset/

                Re: New Marina Restaurant Renderings

Thanks 40th. This may sound kinda dumb and noob-ish, but I have never really tried looking for polycounts in my models. Is there a way to get that info for the entire scene easily? I just know that the file sizes were in the upper 30,000 kb's. I never recorded actuall numbers, but each scene probably took about 1-2 hours to render at the max default render size in vray. As for illumination...that was a challenge. I used emissive materials for various little things like the table lights and such and then I set up vray rectangular lights throughout to give a little bit of ambient light to represent light coming from surrounding buildings and light from the restaurant itself. It was tough, because we did not have any lighting really designed so we had to fake it and the scenes are probably brighter than they really would be with the few given light sources that we have. For the sundown views...I used similar lights and emissive materials, but I included environment lighting from a jpeg image that I found of a sky on either 1000skies.com or cgtextures. Cant remember which one. I found using images for environment lighting to be effective, and chose to use that instead of an HDRI, because I have yet to be able to purchase a good HDRI package and really havent found too many good, free ones. And thank you for the resource....that will come in very handy.

Steeler: You can find the count under Tools > Model Info > Statistics.
