  • Small House in the city

    Hi all…

These r pics of a small house I designed as a study project… and represent the first study of lighting and materials. The design is practically over with but I may still change some things along the way.

Modeling done almost totally in SketchUP (lighting fixtures are from ERCO) then imported to MAX for rendering.

All the lights in the night scenes are ERCO Photometric with VRayShadow on them
Day Scene has a direct light and environment Override.

I’ll appreciate any comments on this rendering especially the lighting distribution at night since it is a first draft only and I never did this kind of thing before.

One thing though on the Outside night shot at the leftmost side ( midway on the stairs ) there is a glass railed balcony that came out odd as if there is a light source out there but there isn’t any. I think one should see black throw this glass?

Babek - Looks real nice. Can you show us a shot of the entry. How do I get into the house? I like the open courtyard concept. Nice work.

            Cool space to work with!

On the third image, perhaps I would suggest you to use some wallwashers to illuminate the walls this will give you a stronger indirect lighting in your scene, try to see what is the ERCO suggestion for their placement.

What are your irradiance map settings and render times?

            Nice work,

            Gonçalo

Hi Goncalo... Thanks for the tip, i'll try to implement that one.

The IR Settings is on very low; HSph 40; Interp Samp 15; first diff 1.0
              seconed diff 0.8; direct - subdivs 10 - depth 5

dark blue environment with 0.8 multi. ( the night scene )

Time for this renders is around the 30min - 45min

do you know why i get this strange affect with the glass in the 4 pic. on the left mid way on the stairs there is a balcony with a glass rail that shows up bright gray when i think it should be darker like the background.
              i used EGZ glass material.

it also happens in the day scene... the sky background is blocked some how and the glass is gray. ( like in the last post above with the white background )

( i'll post some examples later when i can )

              Regards,
              Bakbek.

Are you using color exponetial color mapping? with what values?

Really a cool house, it seems something lik tadao Ando or Toyo Ito....take from a over-builded japanese city...Btw, the GI seems a little splotchy, don't you find?
really nice the usage of Erco with vray: also i tested them and find really natural...Cool!

Well... it's realy only some test renders so i didn't push it too much,
but the finals will have higher settings.

I'm using Linear color mapping 1.0 for both Dark and Bright.
do u think using Exponential will do the differance?

                    Regards,

                        Hi all...

Here is a final image ( i think ) of the ground floor viewed from the entrance at night.

Took a long while to render... too long. i think because of all the Photometric Lighting. settings where at -3 -1 HSph 60 Interp 20
Sec Bounce Direct 10 with Depth 3; Linear Color mapping at 1 for both
i made a IR pass at 640x480 and final at 1200x900. Environmet Overide with Dark Blue Color at 0.8

                        please do comment
