  • Cultural Center Addition (My First Gallery)

I'm still learning the ropes with V-Ray as I make my transition from Novice to Quasi-Intermediate. Below are renderings of a project that has been put on hold for a while, but now is starting back up again. The very bottom image was a rendering I had done for this project several months earlier.

Comments and suggestions are very welcome! (Just be gentle...it's my first gallery! )

    I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.
    SketchUp 8.0.11752
    Windows 7 Professional-64 bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 K655 @ 3.20GHz
8.00GB of RAM, 1.2TB Hard Drive

Very nice! I particularly like the third image. The quality of lighting is very nice .

The last image, I would turn down the opacity of the silhouettes. They stand out just too much. The silhouettes should only be indicative and show proportion, not take over the scene.

    Very well done!

      Thanks for the input, Stevebo!
Yeah, the people in the last image needed to be toned down.

my favorite is the last one.. hehehe no, just kidding, you did improve A LOT! congratulations.
i agree with stevebo, the best one is the third one.
paving looks flat, i would look to add some bump to it

What would do a lot in this scene would be to photoshop the grass. Find some reference imagery from about the same angle and cut and paste into the scene. Might even help to render of a scene with the grass in white and everything else in black to create a mask.

I took some images last summer of grass from various angles which I found of good use later on. I hope to collect more photos again this summer. For vegetation I find photoshopping grass into the render afterwards to give the best result. No tiling texture, no displacement map ever looks good.

Another thing I'd mention is the glass. It's at the moment pure mirror. Or at least it looks like it. I realise that it might be because you have no interior. But what I do is to use a fresnel over a very dark opaque colour. That some times do the trick.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Couldn't you just use a "Colour ID" VFB Channel?

Thanks guys for the comments and suggestions!

Yeah, the pavement and grass are my next two obstacles to tackle. I'll definitely beef up the bump on the pavement, thanks for pointing that out, Arqestevez1.

Thomthom, I'll try out that photoshopping method. As for the glass, this has been an issue for me. I used that clear-glass.vismat, but at certain angles it looks like pure mirror. I didn't change it beacuse, as you had mentioned, I didn't have any interior modeled.

Not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean apply a fresnel map on the diffuse layer?

Thanks again for the comments, guys! Keep 'em coming!
