  • Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

These are from a side project that I am just doing for fun and to test out the new build of vray. I am actually creating an entire "beach house", but I just finished these and wanted to post them, because it probably wont be for a while until I get back to working on the rest. But I plan on updating as things go. For now though, these were created with the latest release of vray as the title explains. We all know about the bugs that the developers are working on, but I must admit, if you take those out of the equation, this version of vray is really pleasing to work with and in my opinion, the results are more predictable than they have ever been. I litterally made 2-3 adjustments in my rendering settings and I was good to go, and the material editor, although a bit slower in some aspects, was a lot more enjoyable to work with. Im not by any means saying these images are perfect, but I hope they are good enough to encourage people about the newest version, because I know the ASGVIS guys are working hard, but have been getting a lot of heat lately and as soon as these bugs get worked out, this rendering software is going to be great for everyone. I hope you all enjoy the images, and as always, critiques and feedback are welcome and appreciated.

man, you did a great job.
floor and "granito" material look terrific. woman looks fake to me, but it is hard to blend people on renders, it's a nice try.
even oranges material seems well achieved.
i would only bring light's flares a little down.
it is a really good work, and about the software, i am saving some money to buy the newest update... once bugs are corrected :P

very nice render steeler, i like the design, great materials, only critic is the steel material of the big forniture on the back dosent look realistic to me, i think i saw once a render of stefanq with an excellent metal material wich was very convincing maybe you can look for it as a refference, also the woman is well blended but can be better, i know is hard to blend people on scenes lots of ps most be done...but anyway i like your work my brother!

heres a reference of the steel material from a post of 40th check it out on the kithchen render

Very nice render great lightning, great materials my only critic are the chairs to much reflections and they look uncomfortable. Your renders are excepcional i love that color on your walls and the oranges look real. I don like the girl she becomes a focal point on your design. Congrats steeler!

Re: Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

thanks guys, im glas you like these.

ARQ: Thanks man, Im really excited about the bug fixes, because this version is really a great update.

TEO: The steel was a bit of struggle for me...I usually try to custom make a lot of my materials and one of the things I wanted to do with these renderins, since it wasnt a real project, was practice making certain materials and that steel was one of them. It is definately not perfect, so I am going to run these through again with that suggested material you gave me by 40th, because that is perfect for the look I was going for (i gotta remember to thank him for that one cause it looks great). And thank you for the link my friend. As for the women blended in the scene, I can certainly admit that merging people into a scene is one area I am still learning and working with to get better....I knew there was something that just wasnt right but I couldnt put my finger on it...are there any specifics that really stand out to you guys that you would suggest to blend her better? I know like dave said..it doesnt help that her look and positioning really makes her a focal point (ive used people looking at the camer before, and Im really not a fan of that..it always makes everything look too staged)

DAVE: Thanks. Im not a fan of the chairs either...it was just part of the design, which I forgot to mention in the intro...this kitchen was not my design. I took it from a kitchen rep. poster lying around the office and I wanted to see how closely I could match the scene since it was a practice project. Then as you see me update this (hopefully), I desinged the rest of the house around this kitchen with my own design ideas (thats why the rest is taking so long).

Re: Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

Thanks guys. Luis, the lights were IES lights that I used in the new version of vray, but if you are referring to the lense flares?...they were done in photoshop and I cant really share them. If you have photoshop, you can find them under "fliter-render-lense flare" and they have a few basic ones. or you can buy knoll light factory to get a plugin full of all kinds of lense flare options. Hope that helps explain

Re: Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

Looks really nice steelers! The lighting is great, what kind of lights did you use? I am doing an interior scene using the new version of VRay and none of lights will turn on, I ended up using emissive materials to meet the deadline but want to figure out how to use real lights again.

Re: Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

thanks joe...im guessing your problem is that you are using a physical camera and your light values arent strong enough. Try jacking them up into the high hundreds and even into the thousands or tens of thousands. You will have to experiment a bit, but you really need high values for lights when using the physical camera. But I used plane lighs and ies lights for these images and a few emissive materials.

Thanks Steelers, I am going to try that tonight. Seems like some things like that changed in the new version, where I would use my normal lighting settings I have used in the previous versions. But, now they are not showing up. I will crank em up and see what I get.

Re: Modern Kitchen - Renderings with New Version of Vray

                          Wow Steeler those are neat.
I love accessories scattered around the kitchen.
The Brushed metal material I used (and still using) and stefan pointed that out that it's included in the VfS default materials built in pack. Anyway here's the settings http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?to...31459#msg31459

Regarding the female, I've learned a trick to blend in PS and it's mainly helps to blend the outline of the layer. As you can see the woman has a black halo (very small but noticeable) and that has a lot to do with the standing out as "glued" object. So it goes like this in Photoshop Got to Layer>matting>defringe. than you can put a pixel value to "blend".
Let us know how did it go.

                          And again good work.
