Vray lights are different from max lights, they use direct computation to cast light, instead of casting shadow.

This also means that subdivisions can also help the hemisphere subdivisions, guide them and be stored with irradiance map when used as skylight portal, In general they tends to be very slow when many are used.

daforce, all images (except the last 2) are rendered w/o GI. the vray lights do not use irradience maps as they are no skylight portals.

the point is the large image which took about 3h to render and for me this is quite long.

              is this answering your question?

Try using an IR map as well as the vray light, set it to use Low settings. And also tick the Store with irradance map option for the vray lights.

                It should render much quicker.

Failing that, if you want post the scene and i will have a quick look 4 u

Ok, with a bit of tinkering i was able to get it to render @ 640x480 in 9mins. Probably get that down to about 7 with some more work.

here it is. Its not great, still needs work but it renders quick ish, 8:17 on my machine. It will take a little longer with all the textures and it also needs to have teh IR map settings increase a little to remove some oddities in the shadows.

                            I checked your scene.

The lights in the tube cause huge rendertimes. All vraylights have samples between 8-10, this is pretty high. Especially those in the tube light are crazy! And the big one in the windows is set to 100!!!!!

Then your glossy materials... You use direct comp with samples set to 50! This is waaaaaaaay to much. Use 3-5 instead.

I think you can get faster results with GI on and fewer lights. With the sun, environment light and one vray light you can illuminate this scene perfectly imo.

But remember glossy samples 3-5 and samples for vray light also very low (3-5 with many lights) and maybe 8 if you only have one vray light.

hey thats pretty cool to read something about settings that won't crash my maschine

i checked daforce's scene, it took 23mins on my machine - daforce i want your computer *g*

in the meantime i revisited the scene and abandoned the lamp and the many lights. now the scene is lit by only one vray light - the mood of an afternoon lighted room passed away, but i think my intention was to have a clear geometry with some kind of semi-realistic lighting instead.

check the gallery section on my homepage to see this latest result.

for your kind help and efford my gratefulness to you is granted!

hope to help you sometime *cheers* !

p.s.: now i try to optimize this new scene using your hints

heheheh well you cant have it...its mine...mine...all mine...muhahahah

You can keep your lamp in but dont use vray lights, just use normal omnis with vray shadows, they render much much quicker.

Also for lighting try putting a vray light at the window (already done) and setting it to be a skylight portal and stored with IR map.

THen set the skylight color to be white and crank it to ten, now render that you might also want to have a direct light with vray shadows to simulate the sun.
