  • Whats wrong...?

    Dear fellow members
I am having troubles with my glossines and aliasing settings....Here are some test images I did to test the most correct setting but I did not get very far....not as far as I wanded and not as far as vray is capable (I HOPE!!!!!)
On the first two images please one very distracting thing:
Aliasin on the more horizontal edges is very unsatisfactory...the more the edge is horizontal, twe worse it gets....All the materials that have glossy refraction and reflection have these settings:

    - Interpolation -3,0 with 50 subdivs and 50 samples....both tresholds at 0.25 ( I think it far enough)

    Furtermore I set the aliasing
    Simple two level 2,4 or
Adaptive 1,3, which is enough as well....
    I have Catmull rom on

Direct computation does not solve the problem, only makes it long to compute....

What shall I do ...I am getting frustrated, cos I can see that vray can do much better than that.....please give me some advice....

    Thank you so much

This last is with Direct Comput (the metal) but it has some grain (10 samples)

    PS:
Ill be at the hospital (surgery) for two or three days, and I BEG you to come up with a solution....thanks in advance...

from experience i found that the Catmull rom filter tends to enchance the edges sometimes too much - i like the mitch netravelli filter cause it's a good compromuse and tends to smooth those edges out - however i don't know if this will help your particular problm.

as far as the rest - your AA seems quite high already .....

can you share the settings or material for that frosted glass you got??

      thanks,

      and nice work!!!

        re

chamfer your edges just to a very small amount.
Indecisive archictects will be the death of us all.

erm... how long did these render to finish?

i'd like to know as your images got such an amazing quality!
for me they look very good, wished i would achieve such results without getting old...

what are your aa noise threshold value? If you are using a lot of interpolations, and this is what it seams... I think that the best AA method is adaptative subdivision 1,2 or 1,3 with a low noise amount like 0.05 or 0.01, and I would probably check randomize too...

i concur with goncalop, check rand on ur AA settings, has helped me in many a sticky situation.

Another thing that I ve notice is that you are using very low irradiance map settings, try at least High irradiance map presets

THE PROBLEM THAT WE HAVE AND GONCALO AND ...

THE PROBLEM THAT WE HAVE AND GONCALO AND flipside dejavu etc don't have is the floating object even if the settings is not so slow

today I had some times to spend on some file and I took the goncalo file

TRY with photon like gonçalo explain here (here u can download the scene with settings):

                  http://www.chaoticdimension.com/foru...pic.php?t=3894

It is helpfull to understand the importance of the differents parameters in the photon map solution but I think that only vlado and gonçalo, dejavu and someone else can get so good result

Only think that I can't understand very well when they say you must find the right distributions of the photons.

It must be contrasted I must see the dimension of the photon or what??

I must spend some times on this technique
It coul give good excuse excellent result like some artists in this forum shows

                  bye and goodnight

                    Hi Pengo,

That means to get a good photon map disbribution, each light should have the same quality of samples stored in the photon map...

You know that is simple to trace photons with a vraylight if its placed in a window, because all the photons will be destributed inside the room, but with a Standart light as a Sun this is more difficult since a lot of photons will be lost, thats why it needs a lot more to get the same quality.

Guys, thank you for all the comments,

I wish I had some more time to answer all these and try your advice, but unfortunately I am at the hospital right now....

                      To Goncalo:
Ill try that whenever I get back.....I know there must be a clue to this...

                      Shytigercp:
I got all the edges filetet with 0.2 cm radius...

                      Arkiotec:
Thanks for a compliment...Ill post the settings whenever I am back...That will hopefully be Friday....

                      Cocolas: ¨
Ill check it out....might be worth it.....I can enhance the edges in the post process anyways....

                      Zeromancer:
About half an hour....I got only Athlon 1.4 with 524MB RAM...Gotta buy a new one soon..I hope....

Thanks again for all the tips....Ill post everything asap.

                      Take care

                          Thanks everyone,
Thi is an image that I am satisfied with (well at least with aliasing), though the floor could use a bit more samples for interpolation....

Here are the settings for frost glass, if you want to give it a go...you might want tu uncheck the fresnel refl.
Maybe you could help me with the setting, so that its reflective, I tried to set up frosted reflective glass, but somehow I got stuck at thic point...so if you have some time you can play with it an post the result with the settings...

And finally here is the floor mat that some of you have been asking for, its packer in rar and uncompressed its a 5MB tiff. No big deal really, just an assembled pieces of photograph....dirtied up a little so it doesnt look sterile...
                          http://www.volny.cz/mzmeskal/Floor_tile.rar
of yourse a jpg compressed sample...here you are

Thanks again for help, this forum is great, hopefully yo ufind use of these...

In your aa settings you can try to check normal with a threshold of 0.5
