  • my appartment, must be doing something wrong?

i'm trying to recreate my appartment, but i can't get it to look real like you guys do...
i guess interior rendering's just not my thing

    rendered with max

quick shot with my palm zire71

i'm using an omni with attenuation and area shadows at the top of the room, or else the overall scene is too dark and i can't seem to multiply my skylight

lol. I really like your tagline. Looks great for the most part. reminds me of an image I did for creating lampshades. It's a dark scene so what can you expect. Try resizing your plastic chair or enlarging your computer chair. The couch on the left looks a little plastic- get rid of the specularity on that and add a little noise texturing. You can cheat with the pillow- I'd balance out the colors a bit by adding a harmonius color such as red to it. Also, add a little reflectivity or specularity to your wood floor.

An omni light set low in the middle would illuminate your scene better as the room corners are a bit dark. You can also add a little more opacity to your blinds in order to get more light in. If you're going to lighten this scene up, then add a little trim to the bottom of the walls (I don't think I see this in your image.) This little detail can add alot to a scene.

Another thing you could do is lighten the wall colors to match your real picture more closely. Though in reality you should repaint your real room to match the wonderful biege in this scene and buy a couple of curtains from Pier 1 Imports ($25). My girlfriend forced me to do this to my bedroom and I must admit it worked visual wonders...

      hi
How are you trying to get the light into the room ?
are you using vray lights and using them as sky portals?
instead of using omni lights why dont you use a Spherical vray light, your shadow's will be more realistic.
Are you using Photon Mapping ?
and is your scene to scale as the real world ?
I think your objects in the room are to large or is that wishfull thinking (Monitor).......
try using HSV Colour Mapping and increase the amount of light coming through the windows.

CBAS- beyond my scene suggestions, you can also increase your secondary bounces to ~.85 if you're using GI. This should increase the light throughout the scene. You may also want to increase your secondary bounces depth.

natty- pardon my newbie ignorance- can I use photon mapping be used to produce better results than 2 level? I never quite understood the purpose of photon mapping. I usually stay close to the default and hit 'render'. In some ways this is a very good example for me too.

if you use photon you tend to get a smother image with more detail.
things are more defined in the visual.....and a nice solution.
