I guess sipping from that glass would feel just like ... ehm ... well, I guess you can imagine what I mean (luckily my wife is not a member of this forum) .
Anyway, back on topic: can't wait to play around with this feature, Vlado! As Tammo already mentioned, this looks like non-linear displacement. I'm curious what kind of smart method is the basis for this effect and how it's implemented in the VRay suite of tools. Will the displacement bend amount and direction also be animatable, so we can create waving grass, hair, etc.? Or maybe the displacement can be influenced by space warps, such as gravity to let it hang and wind to let it wave? That'd be cool.
Will this feature be a part of VRay 1.1? If you consider the large amount of changes between 1.0 and 1.1, I can't wait to see what version 2 will offer in the future!
You could do grass for example...
I don't think it's made for Hair only. Anyhow, hair is very difficult to do. Just imagen an animal with short hair like a cow.
But, this feature could be a breakthrough in displacement. Hope we won't see crashes with more then 8 million polygones animore. (Usally i have to plaim the irradiance map for that)
Anyhow the flickering is still a problem with animated hair, I guess.
Cheers,
-dave
